Letter to Parents——April 5th, 2013
Dear Parents:Easter Sunday is over and I hope that kids picked up a lot of Easter eggs. April 1 st was also passed by with no joke. Spring is finally coming, noticeably seen here and there. April 7th we will have next drawing and coloring class and we will do a Panda.I have loaded some artwork from students in my blog. You are welcome to take a look. Obviously you would find that students’ drawing and coloring skills are getting better. Most importantly, all the kids being so involved in creating a wonderful piece of artwork really impresses me. They are prepared and happy to come to the class and ready to do their best in drawing and coloring. This attitude drives the students to make a progress! After the next class, we will have a Spring break and will not have a class on April 14, and 21, 2013. We will meet on April 28, starting another level of drawing toward the end of the semester.Best regards,Michelle Yu, Teacher -
Letter to Parents——March 20th, 2013
Dear Parents,Easter Sunday will be coming soon. The class will draw something like bunnies and a basket of eggs to celebrate Easter in this Sunday,3/24/13. After that, it will be a Easter break, no school on 3/31/13.Some new students still do not have a drawing pad yet. I encourage parents to buy one for your own kid. As I reminded students in the classroom, I also want the parents to know that folding artwork is not a way to keep it. Stacking it in a folder is a way to keep it for a long time.During cleaning the classroom, we found a pen box full of crayons and markers. If someone forgot it, please come to me next Sunday.Happy Easter!Michelle Yu, Teacher -
Letter to Parents——Feb 7th, 2013
Dear Parents,
The next Sunday we will not have class because of the Chinese new year. After that, then upcoming Sunday we will draw and color birds.
In order to celebrate the Chinese new year of Snake, we drew and colored the snakes last week. During the instruction and demonstration, I also talked a tale about 画蛇添足。 All the students got my point because I found out that none of artworks from all attended students (16) have drawn feet on snakes along with a considerable amount of extra free drawing they did on the artworks.
This semester we have 17 students registered. To remind new students what to bring to class room, I would like to emphasize: a drawing pad, a pencil, an eraser, a box of crayons and a folder.
Work hard and make a progress!

Letter to Parents——Jan 16, 2013
Dear Parents,
As we move into 2013, art class 1B also gets to a new level of drawing. We have drawn penguins and hot-air balloons. The next class is the last class of this semester. We will draw and color butterflies. I have pasted a few pieces of students’ art work to my blog and you are welcome to take a look. They are randomly picked up and certainly not the best, but representative. If you have not registered, please do so soon.
I wish you and your kids have a wonderful, happy and prosperous new year of 2013!

Letter to Parents——Dec 14th, 2012
Dear parents,
The coming Sunday is not the last class for this semester, but the last class in 2012 before the Holiday season break. We will draw and color ring bells and Santa Claus. Meanwhile, we will make a Christmas and New Year Card in a way that pasting a best favorite of the each student’s painting to a piece of purple paper which I have distributed in the classroom. If you can help kids to do so, please do so because it is a home work for this week and this work needs scissor and glue. If you can not do it , we will finish it up in the next class.
It is needless to say and obvious to see that our students have significantly advanced their drawing and coloring. I am very happy to see that they are so confident about their ability now. Very often, they just go ahead to start drawing once they see my master painting on the board. While they listen to my instruction and see my demonstration, they continue to do, or to revise it, or to do more. They are really interested and happy to do it. This is what I want to see. They are on track now. I would like to see more in the future drawing in 2013, in the next chapter of drawing and coloring after the break. The class in the next semester will stay on track to move to a new level of drawing. I have planed a lot of more interesting things to draw.
To summarize what we have done in this chapter of drawing, I would say that we did wonderful artwork on turkeys for Thanksgiving, on snowmen, wreath, Christmas trees, and upcoming ring bells and Santa for Christmas. The students are so happy to draw these things. I wish them enjoy the drawing as well as enjoy the season and culture. I wish all of you and your kids a merry Christmas and happy New Year.
Best,

Letter to Parents—— Nov 16th, 2012
Dear Parents,One more month passed quickly as we had five more sessions of the drawing class. We drew and colored a dog, mickey mouse, pumpkin, hands and leaves. During this chapter of drawing, while we continued to spend efforts to add interesting subjects into drawing and coloring, we intensified the drawing skill training. For an example, I used leaves as an example not only to teach students to experience 写生,but also to teach students five ways to record 稍纵即逝 的现象 or to record in-vanishingly a memory of special, lovely, beautiful, or important things. The five ways are 1. make a print of a subject without a copy machine, e.g. contour leaves or figure prints, 2. trace a subject like leaves, 3. draw a subject, 4. photograph a subject and 5. videotape a subject. In the classroom, I taught the first three ways such as contouring, tracing and drawing of leaves. I hope that parents can help teach kids the last two ways in the outside of classroom. For the next chapter of this drawing class, I will introduce holiday season activities into the class by combining holiday season activities with drawing skills. Towards this direction, in the next session we will draw and color turkeys to celebrate Thanksgiving. Please let kids know and be prepared. After this session, we will have Thanksgiving break and resume the class in December 2nd, 2012.Best regards,Michelle Yu, Teacher -
Letter to Parents——Oct 5th, 2012
Dear Parents,
Due to Columbus day, we will not have a drawing class on the upcoming Sunday, Oct 7th, 2012. The next class will be in Oct 14th, 2012. By then we will draw a mickey mouse. Meanwhile, please enjoy a long weekend.
The last class we draw and color a basket of apples, reminding everyone of the apple-picking season. Kids liked it very much. Kids are getting more and more interest in drawing now after 4 sessions. Getting students interested in drawing is as important as talking about any drawing skills. This is the first and solid step we completed.
Some kids still do not have a drawing book yet. Please also remember to bring it to the class. Meanwhile, students should have a folder to collect the material I distribute to the students over the classes.
See you in the next class!

Letter to Parents——Sept. 7th, 2012
Dear Parents,
The new school year is coming finally and we expect that the first class will be on Sept 9th, 2012. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer vacation, setting mind for school again.
So far our class has 15 students registered. It seems a big class for this age of kids. I expect that all parents prepare your kids well for this drawing class. Please go to my blog to see the last year teaching plan for this class. Our drawing class will start a new teaching plan, similar to what we did last year and adding more interesting things to draw. We still mostly draw animals, flowers, fruits and people. I bought a lot of teaching materials and can not wait to show you all.
The kids taking this drawing class will need these supplies: a sketching book, a pencil, an eraser, and a pack of crayons. Students should be in the class room five minutes before class starts.
Have a nice school year and learn a lot!

letter to parents——June 14th, 2012
Dear Parents,
We are unbelievably embracing our last class of drawing on the coming Sunday. We will draw and color an alligator. Meanwhile, because the coming Sunday is father’s day, kids can have a choice to make a card to their father for happy father’s day. I will have a master drawing hanging on the board and the kids can copy.
After this Sunday, summer vacation is coming. I know that the students all have their own plans to spend their wonderful vacation. I wish you have a good time and will miss all of you. I hope to see you all in September by when you all will be one grade up. I know that some of you will continue to take art classes either in my class or move to other classes. Either way will give you further education on art, and give you confidence to be talent students.
To make a long story short, I wish you the best!

Letter to Parents———May 14th, 2012
Dear Parents,
As my previous email announced , NCLS will have an artwork exhibit on May 20th, 2012. I have been preparing for this exhibit and have collected enough artwork from the students. We will have three poster boards standing on the table in the cafeteria on the next Sanday, May 20th. Please come to see your kids’ work.
Our students are the youngest kids in NCLS, but their artwork, by no means, is the modest or un- advanced. Their progress in the drawing and coloring surprised me, surprised their parents, and surprised their peers, too. Their ability to catch up the drawing skills, to mimic my drawing and coloring is enormous and unlimited. Four students followed my class for two semesters and they are totally familiar with my skills and they can vividly reproduce my teaching master painting without hesitation and shyness. I clearly remembered how they are doing at the beginning of this class and their growth makes me speechless. The other four kids joined the class in this semester and are obviously seeing the distance they have to catch. These four kids are really motivated and worked diligently in the class. Their improvement is huge. Let us give them some more time and I am sure that we will see the difference. I have posted in my blog a few of the artworks from a few of students and you are a judge.
I am happy to see them in my class and enjoyed to see their progress.
Best
