For New Student

General Information

This class is NCLS Math 9. This is a year long course. Please visit my blog site http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org/wangweidong/ for this course’s introduction, information, and teaching plan. In particular, find the information about the book we are going to use.

We use Singapore Math textbook. It is optional to get the textbook. Every paid student will get a work book which is the one we use for homework.

The pre-requisite for this course is NCLS Math 7 and Math 8, which also use Singapore Math textbooks and are the ones before the one we use.  Click here for Math 6 content. If you didn’t take those courses, I recommend that you look at the material from the course description, and think whether your child is ready.

Every Sunday after the class, I will update my blog site with the day’s teaching info, what we teach, what the homework is. Please get into the habit of checking it regularly. You can subscribe to its RSS feed by following the information in the following post:

Here are a few rules that I want each and every student/parent to know:

Classroom Discipline

Students are to behave themselves in the classroom. No chatting, no disruptive behavior. If I have to intervene three times, the student is sent to the Principal for discipline action.

Absence Rule

If a student cannot attend the class, effort should be made to inform me ahead of time, via email or phone call. It is the student/parent responsibility to go over the missing content and catch up.

Classroom Participation

I strongly recommend every student to participate in the classroom discussion and volunteer to come up to do exercise when possible. This is really a good opportunity for you to learn new things. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes.

Homework Rule

We have homework after each lesson. I expect every student to do his homework, as this is the necessary way to help you understand and get better at the subject. Homework should be handed in the next lesson and my TA will grade them in the class and usually the homework will be given back to students at the end of the next lesson.

Parent Participation

I expect parent to play an active role in this learning experience. I expect the parent to talk to the student after each lesson, to get the student to do the homework and check his homework, to know the coming exams and review the exam results with the student. You are welcome to contact me for any issue relating to your kid’s learning.
