Our blog site supports RSS feed. That is, people who want to follow your postings can simple subscribe to your blog’s RSS feed and get to know your new postings, without needing to visit your blog site every so often to see if there is anything new.

There are multiple ways to subscribe feeds.

First of all, you need to get the RSS feed link/URL. In the simplest form, it is your site URL plus “feed/”. If your site is http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org/abcd, then your site feed is http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org/abcd/feed/

For example, my site feed link is: http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org/wangweidong/feed/

Below are three ways to subscribe to RSS feeds:

1. Using google reader: reader.google.com

You need a google account (gmail account is OK, or sign up one).

Once in, click “Add a subscription” and enter the feed link URL. That is it.

2. If you use “My Yahoo” as your home page and visit there often, like me, then you can add feeds right there.

Go to your yahoo home page: http://my.yahoo.com

Click “FrontPage -> +Content”. Then click “Add RSS Feed”. Enter the RSS feed link, click “Add”. THen “I’m Done” to get out.

Now you will see this feed appears at the top. You can move it to anywhere you want it. Now everytime you visit your Yahoo home page, it will check to see if there is new posting from the blog site you are following.

3. Use Outlook

If you use Outlook (not Outlook Express), you can subscribe to RSS right there.

Math contest this coming Sunday

We will have a school wide Math contest this coming Sunday, and our class will participate in it.

The contest questions are basically from the mini-Olympic contests, so they may not be easy to solve. They provide an opportunity for students to learn something interesting in Math. There is no need to prepare for this contest.

Of course, this contest is not mandatory. If your children don’t feel comfortable to attend this contest, they may choose to skip it do anything else in the class.

We won’t announce everybody’s test scores. We will just award the winners.

The winners will be chosen based on students’ regular school grades. In other word, several groups will be formed based on their regular school grades. We choose winner(s) from each group.

Today we reviewed what we have learned in Chapter 9. We went through each section.

For those students who came in late or who have not learned certain parts, either in Chapter 9 or earlier chapters, it is up to you to make up for those parts.

We will have our mid-term exam next week. It will be a close-book test.

The week after the exam, our class will participate in the school wide math contest. More detail will come later.

Today we started the new chapter, CH 10, and covered 10.1, 10.2, 10.3. We talked about polynomial addition, subtraction, and multiplication. We talked a few often used formulae.

For addition and subtraction, it is important to combine only like terms. For multiplication, we talked about FOIL method for multiplying two binomials. For any two polynomial multiplication, just remember to multiply every term in one polynomial to every term in the other polynomial, and add them together.

For the special formulae, the following three are important to memorize:

(a – b)(a + b) = a^2 – b^2
(a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2
(a – b)^2 = a^2 – 2ab + b^2

P587, #36 – 47
P593, #27 – 42
