-Classroom room rent

During the early April, NCLS principals had a meeting with Newton public school facility department, discussed the classroom rent fee. Since the various utility fee have been increased  significantly, Newton public school committee decided to increase the classroom rent for all current clients annually until 2020, to cover this significant amount of increased expenses. The rent increase will be started from July 1, 2016.

For the current NCLS tuition, which has been used to cover mainly the classroom rent fee and the teacher’s stipend, can not cover the increased rent. In order to cover the increased gap, the school board has decided to increase a small percentage of the tuition from 2016 – 2017 school year.

Another thing, for the gym usage, the school used to allow parents play basketball and ping pong for free, but from the next school year, all parents who are going to play at gym need to pay certain amount of fee. All these money will be used to cover gym rent fee.

The detail information will be posted later.

If you have any questions regarding to the rent increase, you can stop by the library.

-TA Application

The application of TA for the next school year already started, if you or your kid has interest, please submit the application form to Tian Yi Lao shi (pa@newtonchineseschool.org) as early as possible. You can get the form either from school or download from the following link.

The general requirements for student TA, 15 years old, students graduated from NCLS preferred but not mandatory. According to school rule, if your kid already did two school years TA, you can not apply for again. If you are current TA with the less than two years term, and would like to do it next school year, you need to re-submit the application from. (新学生TA的要求：年满15岁，本校学生优先。请到学校领申请表。已经在本学校担任两年TA的原则上不能继续申请TA, 在中文学校做TA不满两年的学生，如果想继续做TA，必须重新申请。表格到学校领。)

-National Chinese Brush Painting and Calligraphy Competition

Congratulations to all of the following NCLS students who participated and were selected as the finalist of the 2016 (25th) national youth Brush Painting and Calligraphy Competition hosted by Foundation for Chinese Performing and Arts(中華表演藝術基金會).

There are a total of 238 entries (Brush Painting 208, Calligraphy 60) submitted by 29 different Chinese Schools, arts studios, and individuals from 8 states (CA, CT, GA, HI, MA, NJ, TX, WA)  The images of the 67 winners’ art works will be posted on website at: http://www.ChinesePerformingArts.net around June 1, 2016.

第25屆全美青少年國畫書法比賽，4月23日經朱蓉、陸惠風、鍾耀星、馬清雄、謝茵、林浩宗、鍾耀星、方正厚 7位評委，三小時的精挑細選反覆審查，己由全部 238件作品中選出67件 金銀銅佳作等得獎作品，將獲獎金獎狀。本次參賽作品來自﹔紐澤西州、加州、夏威夷州、德州、康州、佐治亞州、華盛頓州、及麻州等8州，29所中文學校、書畫學苑及個人。全部參賽作品，包括國畫208件，書法60件，將紐頓市僑教中心 的大廳四週、前廳及前後走廊全部貼滿。主辦單位中華表演藝術基金會會長譚嘉陵表示，今年的作品素質又明顯提昇，尤其是書法組，件件精彩，美不勝收。評委雖都是專業行家， 法眼取捨之間也頗為難。今年也依往例，將入圍者名單公佈，鼓勵各地學生，百尺竿頭更進一步。譚嘉陵並期望各校老師家長勉勵學生，以參與為重，不要對是否得獎過份在意，以發揚中華文化的精髓，學習傳統中國國畫及書法共勉之。 67幅得獎作品經裝裱展出後，將在6月1日前後放上網頁 http://www.ChinesePerformingArts.net. 明年仍是同一時間舉行，希望大家踴躍參加。

Great News! NCLS alumni, William Wang （汪维廉）has been awarded as the 2016 U.S. Presidential Scholars due to his outstanding performance. This award is granted to only two outstanding students each state every year. The winners will go to white house in June to receive award from US president. Congratulations!

-Newton Serves

The NewtonSERVES is going to be on this coming Sunday, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. The PCC is organizing the volunteers to participate. We strongly encourage parents, students who would like to accumulate community service hours to contribute. You can either submit your registration online or send email to PCC Chair: pcc-chairs@newtonchineseschool.org

Here are a list of the project we’ll tackle.

• Rake up leaves and debris outside
• Clean up all the trash outside
• Mulch bushes and garden beds
• Wash 1st floor windows inside and outside
• Clean up and prepare the courtyard plants

Volunteers are encouraged to bring rakes and/or mulch spreaders like shovels or garden rakes.

Johan Zhang was named salutatorian of his graduating class with a 4.0 GPA and scored a 2400 (first take) on his SAT. He is the winner of various awards, including the National AP Scholar Award, the National Merit Scholarship, and the Nordstrom $10K national scholarship. Outside of the classroom, Johan served as Class Vice President for 3 years and President for 1 year. Also, he co-founded a music charity that has donated over $12,000. Johan was elected Boys Nation Senator by 976 of his peers at New Jersey Boys State. As 1 of 98 Senators nation-wide, Johan was flown down to DC to meet various famous politicians, including President Barack Obama in the White House.

-School Break

NCLS won’t have school this coming Sunday, April 24. Hope everybody have a wonderful spring break. The school will resume on May 1.

-Chinese Brush Painting Demo in MFA

应波士顿Museum of Fine Arts （MFA）邀请，我校国画班谭嘉玲老师和她的学生Yuexiao Mimi Yang, Meiling Zhao, Helen Xiao, Selena Liu, Erik Zou, Alyssa Chen，Angela Lai 于四月十三日和十七日 在Museum of Fine Arts of Boston (MFA)举办国画画展。谭老师现场作画，并同时向观众介绍了国画的一些基本技巧 和所用材料，激发了很多首次来参观中国画观众的兴趣。学生们也为观众现场展示如何使用  “free-hand brush stroke style” 技巧来创作竹子，花草及盆景。两天的活动吸引了众多的观众，均为中华文化的博大精深赞叹不已。

-Speech Contest

四月十六日，新英格兰中文学校协会的演讲/朗诵比赛经过一整天的激烈角逐，终于落下帷幕。我校所有参加比赛的学生都按时到场，并表现优异。在朗诵比赛中，王禹迪获低年级组第一名，米柳获第二名；范雪景获中年级组第一名，张心茗获第二名，唐若洋获优胜奖；周芷清获高年级组第一名，苏静怡获第二名，张心媛获第三名。在演讲比赛中，由于本次参赛选手多，水平高，竞争非常激烈。我们的选手表现都非常出色，发挥也到位，但名次毕竟有限，花儿终归不能全落咱校，所以有点儿遗憾。中年级的演讲张心茗得了第三名，唐牧洋获优胜奖；高年级组张笑菡获第一名，苗欣露获第二名，张心源获第三名。衷心感谢各位老师的支持，也为我们的学生们感到骄傲！

-NewtonSERVES Day

The 15th annual NewtonSERVES is going to kick off on the May 1st. It is the day of Community Service for all Volunteers. Newton Mayor Setti D. Warren is encouraging religious organizations, schools and non-profits to identify service projects that need volunteers. He is also asking citizens, businesses and civic organizations to volunteer and make a difference in the community.

As the responsible family member of Newton community, NCLS has been actively participated the Day middle serve day for many years. For this year’s Day school serve day,  on the May 1st, from 12:00 to 3:00pm, we encourage NCLS parents and students to join Day school PTA to contribute. The projects generally include to clean leaves, paint the wall, clean the hallway, pick up branches, put fresh soil on the side line, etc.

A panel of college-bound seniors will share their experiences in their high school studies and college applications. This is a great opportunity for you to ask questions in person to some of the successful students so that you can better help your kids pave the way to college.

-Speech Contest

在经过了三月二十七日的低年级组（六岁至八岁）及高年级组（十三岁至十六岁）和四月三日中年级组（九岁至十二岁）的比赛后，今年的演讲/朗诵比赛已经全部结束，总共有八十二名学生报名参加今年的比赛，而实际参赛的学生也达到八十人。与以往一样，在这些同学中有的是重返赛场，而更多的是今年第一次参加演讲比赛的新手。

在参赛的学生中有年龄只有六岁，学习刚刚起步的小选手，也有坚持不懈，不言放弃的高年级选手。但是不管是哪个年龄组的选手，他们在演讲/朗诵的舞台上展现给大家的是自信、勇气、坚持、以及对学习中文的热爱。因此，对所有参赛的同学来讲，因为他们的参与，所以他们个个都是赢家。也正是有了他们的积极参与和家长们的大力协助，今年的比赛才能进行得非常顺利，并取得圆满的成功。在此我们也对各位家长给予的热情帮助表示衷心地感谢。

比赛中，七位评委们对每位参赛学生依照比赛评分标准进行了认真，公平的计分。最后，根据每位学生的总得分决出了每组前三名获胜的学生，同时也决出了每组获得鼓励奖的同学。另外，因为各年级组参赛的选手在最初报名的人数上有变化，所以学校对获奖名额做了适度的调整，以鼓励更多的学生学习中文。

具有良好和有效的中英双语口语沟通及书面表达能力。

能够严格按照学校校章及学校的规章制度管理学校。

能够代表学校参与重大社区活动。

原则上应该是牛顿中文学校的家长或教师，最好有参与牛顿中文学校教学或管理的经验。其它中文教学、中国文化教学、管理或社区工作经验也将有益。

副校长人选原则上应能够服务学校两年。

牛顿中文学校教务主任的责任规范和条件：

熟悉牛顿中文学校的中文教学体系，及海外中文教学的特点。

协助正、副校长做好学校的中文教学，及文化课教学工作

具有良好的组织工作和独立工作的能力、及工作热情。

牛顿中文学校财务主任的责任规范和条件：

熟悉牛顿中文学校的财务管理体系，以及联邦、州政府对非盈利组织的相关法律和法规。

具有独立工作的能力、及工作热情。

协助正、副校长做好学校的学生注册，及班级管理，并配合财务主任做好学校的财务管理。

牛顿中文学校后勤主任的责任规范和条件：

熟悉牛顿中文学校的教学和管理体系，及日常教学用具、用品所需和供应。

具有良好的组织和独立工作的能力，及工作热情。

协助正、副校长保证学校正常的中文教学，及文化课教学的后勤供应工作。

牛顿中文学校行政主任的责任规范和条件：

熟悉牛顿中文学校的教学和管理体系，及学校教室的细节

和使用情况。

具有良好的组织和独立工作的能力，及工作热情。

组织所有教师并全面负责日常的教室使用管理，及紧急疏散的管理和实施。

协助正、副校长保证学校正常的中文教学，及文化课教学工作。

熟悉牛顿中文学校的教学和管理体系。

具有良好的组织和独立工作的能力，及工作热情。

组织并负责校刊的编辑和发行，及学校对外的总体宣传和报道工作。

牛顿中文学校2016-2018年度董事会董事征聘启事

由于董事会成员的变动，董事会决定从即日起到2016年4月30日开始接受2016-2018 学年董事会董事的申请。

牛顿中文学校校章规定学校实行董事会董事两年为一任期,连任期限最多为六年的制度。今年部分董事会成员将于本董事会年度结束时（7月31日）完成任期。这些位置都将公开招聘，到任两年但不满六年的董事会成员有资格申请连任。本着公正、透明、及人均享有为学校服务的权利和义务的原则，董事会在此通告全校家长、职教人员，并真诚希望有意为学校服务的人士提出加入董事会的申请,并将与申请连任的董事会成员公平竞争。新选出的董事会成员将成为牛顿中文学校2016-2018 年度的董事会董事。

-Speech Contest

2016年牛顿中文学校中文演讲比赛第一组的比赛已于三月二十七日完成，祝贺参赛的低年级组（6岁到8岁）和高年级组（13岁到16岁）所有同学所做的努力和取得的成绩。

第二组比赛将于四月三日在二楼礼堂进行，参赛的学生是中年级组（9岁到12岁）。比赛将在3:40准时开始。因参赛的学生有40多人，为保证比赛在有限的时间内完成，所以我们要求所有参赛同学一定要在3:25准时到礼堂报到，过时不到者将按自动弃权处理。比赛的顺序将按照参赛学生姓氏的字母顺序由低向高进行，演讲比赛将先进行；之后进行朗诵比赛。所有三个年级组的比赛结果将在四月三日的中年级组比赛结束后发给所有参赛学生的家长。获奖学生的颁奖仪式将在学期结束前与毕业班的毕业典礼一起进行。

评审：评审组由本校七名非常有经验的中文任课老师组成。这些评委中的大部分老师在以往的演讲比赛中曾多次担任过评委，非常熟悉比赛规则及评分标准。每一位评委将本着公平、公正的态度，对所有参赛学生一视同仁，并按照《演讲及朗诵比赛评比规则》认真评审每一位参赛同学。

 评比规则：依照新英格兰中文学校协会的比赛规则，演讲比赛的评分将分为发音（2.5分），语调（2.5分），内容（2.5分），仪态（1.5分），和时间掌控（1分）等五项，总分为10分；朗诵比赛的评分将分为发音（3分），语调（3分），仪态（2.5分），和时间掌控（1.5分）等四项，总分为10分。按照比赛规则，每位参赛学生应该在规定的两分半到三分钟内完成演讲。对过时未完成或时间低于两分半的学生，评委将根据规定扣除一定的分数。我们将除去七名评委中的最高分数和最低分数，剩下的五位评委的平均分数将是学生最后的总分。

 注意事项：在参赛学生演讲过程中，将有专人对学生的演讲时间进行提示。为了不打断学生的演讲，在演讲进行到二分半时，我们会通过用“声音鸣示”的方法提醒学生所剩余的时间。三分钟一到，会再用这种方法提醒学生“时间已到！”，但学生可继续其比赛直到完成。

 奖项：演讲比赛设一等奖一名，二等奖一名，三等奖两名，鼓励奖两名；朗诵比赛设一等奖一名，二等奖两名，三等奖三名，鼓励奖五名。另外，为了鼓励参赛学生学习中文的积极性和热情，所有参赛学生将在比赛当日收到小奖品，以资奖励。

 如您的孩子因某些特殊原因不能按照既定的顺序参加比赛，请您一定事先通知学校，我们可根据情况做适当的调整。

牛顿中文学校财务出纳的责任规范和条件：

熟悉牛顿中文学校的注册管理系统，并对学校的财务管理体系有一定的了解。

具有独立工作的能力、及工作热情。

协助正、副校长做好学校的学生注册，及班级管理，并配合财务主任做好学校的财务管理。

牛顿中文学校后勤主任的责任规范和条件：

熟悉牛顿中文学校的教学和管理体系，及日常教学用具、用品所需和供应。

具有良好的组织和独立工作的能力，及工作热情。

协助正、副校长保证学校正常的中文教学，及文化课教学的后勤供应工作。

牛顿中文学校行政主任的责任规范和条件：

熟悉牛顿中文学校的教学和管理体系，及学校教室的细节和使用情况。

具有良好的组织和独立工作的能力，及工作热情。

组织所有教师并全面负责日常的教室使用管理，及紧急疏散的管理和实施。

协助正、副校长保证学校正常的中文教学，及文化课教学工作。

牛顿中文学校校刊主任的责任规范和条件：

熟悉牛顿中文学校的教学和管理体系。

具有良好的组织和独立工作的能力，及工作热情。

组织并负责校刊的编辑和发行，及学校对外的总体宣传和报道工作。

协助正、副校长保证学校正常的教学和管理工作。

牛顿中文学校校长助理的责任规范和条件：

熟悉牛顿中文学校的教学和管理体系。

具有良好的组织和独立工作的能力，及工作热情。

做好校长与学校教职人员、学生、家长，及学校外部之间的联系。

协助校长做好学校的各项工作。

牛顿中文学校家长会成员(正副会长及代表)的责任规范和条件：

有为中文学校服务的热心。

具有良好的组织能力，及 Internet access。

为了适应学校的发展和需要，提高学校管理效率，董事会和校行政可能将对校行政责任范围做出调整，并有可能根据需要调整校行政人员数目。董事会殷切期望有更多的家长能够参与学校的管理。大家同心同德，齐心协力，为了我们自己，更为了我们的下一代，办好我们自己的中文学校。

牛顿中文学校2016-2018年度董事会董事征聘启事

由于董事会成员的变动，董事会决定从即日起到2016年4月30日开始接受2016-2018 学年董事会董事的申请。

牛顿中文学校校章规定学校实行董事会董事两年为一任期,连任期限最多为六年的制度。今年部分董事会成员将于本董事会年度结束时（7月31日）完成任期。这些位置都将公开招聘，到任两年但不满六年的董事会成员有资格申请连任。本着公正、透明、及人均享有为学校服务的权利和义务的原则，董事会在此通告全校家长、职教人员，并真诚希望有意为学校服务的人士提出加入董事会的申请,并将与申请连任的董事会成员公平竞争。新选出的董事会成员将成为牛顿中文学校2016-2018 年度的董事会董事。

–Newton Chinese Cultural Festival

由牛顿中文学校和牛顿市华人协会在牛顿市政厅共同举办的2016年中国文化节活动于3月12日获得圆满成功！感谢大家的支持和参与！

根据初步估计，前后共有近700多人参加了这次活动，其中有近1/3为非华裔家庭。牛顿市市长Setti Warren，牛顿市议员Jacob Auchincloss，学校委员会委员 Margaret Albright, Diana Fisher 以及 Sheryl Lappin 出席了这次活动并发言。他们对牛顿华人对社区多元文化的发展做出了充分的肯定，Jacob 更进一步鼓励牛顿华人在政治上作同样参与，使得华人在牛顿的影响力得以进一步提高。许多首次参加活动的牛顿居民对主办方带来各种精彩的活动，对中文学校绘画组老师临场发挥所创作的书法绘画和演出团体所表演的具有传统中华特色的武术，民乐和民族舞所折服。

这次文化节的成功的后面，是筹备委员会将近半年的精心准备，是许许多多个人和团体的顶力支持的结果。籍此机会，牛顿中文学校及牛顿市华人协会对所有参与的老师，家长，志愿者，演出团体和赞助商家表示衷心的感谢。

-Speech Contest

因为时间冲突，校内演讲比赛日期向后延一个星期。既比赛报名截止日为3月20日.比赛日期定于3月27和4月3日。有关详细比赛具体事宜将会在下周发给大家。如已报过名但没有填演讲和朗诵题目的，请把题目email给教务主任林老师：xyc_lin@yahoo.com。如打算报名，切记，不要忘记把题目填上。

-Book Fair

牛顿中文学校与中国科学出版集团美国公司共同举办的“中华文化书刊音像大展”，将于本周日，3月20日在Day School 一楼餐厅隆重举行，时间从9:00 am-5:00 pm。届时，由中国300多家出版社，音像公司出品的数千种中文书籍、电影、电视剧DVD和笔墨宣纸荟萃一堂，供学生、家长、以及广大中文和中国文化爱好者选购。

停车信息：下午12:30–5:00, 没有停车证的车辆，请停在校外Crafts Street 停车场，步行到校内。

-Art Work Exhibition 

The annual art work exhibition will be starting from this coming Sunday, March 20th.  All NCLS art class students and teachers will present their art works at school library. It will be a very good opportunity for each painting class to present not only its unique style, but also show  what achievements they made. At the same time, it also provide an opportunity for new students and parents to learn what level and style of each class  they should register if they have interest. The 1st group of classes that will present will be 绘画二乙 (创意绘画, 5-6岁) , 赵嘉媛老师; 绘画四(彩绘, 7-8岁) , 赵孟瑶老师; 绘画五乙(彩绘, 6-7岁),     李青俊老师。

-Speech Contest

今年校内的比赛仍分为演讲比赛和朗诵比赛两部分。根据美东中文学会（ACS）和新英格兰中文学会（NEACS）的规定，演讲比赛的题目可以自定，但不得抄袭书报杂志或网路文章。 朗诵比赛可选用他人的作品，不限制题目内容。所有比赛必须在规定的两分三十秒到三分钟之内完成。低于或超过这个时间都将被扣除一定的分数。校内比赛报名截止日为3月13日，过后将不再接受申请。比赛日期定于3月20，27两日。学校将选出7名具有丰富教学经验的中文课老师组成比赛裁判组。有关比赛的具体事宜学校会在报名截止后通知参赛学生的家长。参赛学生将根据年龄分为三个组：低年级组（六至八岁）；中年级组（九至十二岁）；高年级组（十三至十八岁)。

Nature.Science.Culture (NSC)夏令营今年的招生开始。致力于推广青少年对科学，户外和中国文化的热爱和了解，NSC一年一度的夏令营推崇寓教于乐。NSC夏令营结合科学讲座和小实验，户外探索与健身，以及富涵文化的手工及表演，帮助营员建立对科学，户外和不同文化的好奇与探索。同时，我们通过各种互动形式培养孩子的独立思考，协同合作，和领导力。

The annual craft fair/yard sale will be held in NCLS on this coming Sunday, March 6, 2016. This year’s craft fair include a yard sale and bake sale. The items are sold based on what you want to pay except those labeled with specific price. All proceeds go to 2016 Support Education Program (支教). Unsold items will send to local charities/churches. • Donate your gently used household items and clothing such as toys, decorations, paintings, crafts, paper cuts, sculptures, wallets, scarf, pottery, electronics, clothes, shoes, children’s books, CDs, sportswear, kitchenware

• Donate a cake or any types of bakery for bake sale

• Register for business booth to service the community

• Come to the fair and buy the yard sale items, art pieces or bake goods

• Items for donation should be brought to school cafeteria before 1:30pm on 3/6

• Parents on duty or volunteers can help with donation sale

2016 N&D芭蕾舞蹈夏令营

N&D芭蕾舞蹈学校一年一度的暑期夏令营招生啦! 我们将在Newton ,Lexington和Concord多个地区开设一系列丰富多彩的舞蹈训练课程。我们的夏令营将为热爱舞蹈的学员们全方面提升她们对舞蹈的理解和诠释的好机会。集中的训练能让学员无论在技术技巧，身体支配的控制能力，学习能力还是表现力上都将得到明显的进步与提高。夏令营的课程主要以所有舞蹈的基础-芭蕾舞体系训练为主，从而学习及开拓其他各式舞蹈的学习。我们还将不断引进更多不同风格的舞蹈种类及外聘老师的体验课程。我们的夏令营将带给学员们欢乐与艺术的结合，在轻松浓郁的暑假生活中陶冶了情操。每期名额有限，预先报名，可确保您的名额。
