We went over #14 of Ch.11 HW on the whiteboard, and all students explained Ch.12 Examples # 1-10, and Ch. 13 Examples #1-6. Please check the class notes here.

Strategies for solving the word problems:

1. Find out the keywords (underline or highlight)
2. Pay attention to the numbers (and their relationships)
3. Pay attention to the units
4. Think about when to use the floor function (rounding down) / ceiling function (rounding up)
5. Be clear about which formula to use

Math Competition AMC 10 Boost Course

The American Mathematics Contest 10 (AMC 10), along with the AMC 12, is one of the first exams in the series of exams used to challenge bright students, grades 10 and below, on the path towards choosing the team that represents the United States at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). The AMC 10 is a 25-question, 75-minute multiple-choice test. Problems generally increase in difficulty as the exam progresses. This course (5 classes, 2 hours each) is designed to boost problem-solving skills and cover topics including arithmetic, algebra, counting, geometry, number theory, probability, etc. Students who have a strong foundation in math are encouraged. [Gr. 8-10]

Today we went over Problems #8, 13, 23, 26, 27, and 32 of Ch.16 Functions homework, and students worked on Examples #1-4 of Ch.17 Quadratics on the whiteboard. Ms. Li also explained Problems #8, 18, 19, 25, 26, 30, 37, and 38 from the final exam. Please check class notes here.

Quadratics is a very important topic in SAT math. Please have a clear picture of the three forms (standard, vertex, factored form), quadratic formula, roots, vertex, Discriminants & # of roots.

Homework:
-Ch.17 HW Pg 158-160, please show your work neatly with essential steps. Check the answer key on pg 314-316, and fill in the questions on this Google Form.
