Dear Parents:

Happy Chinese New Year!

On 2/8, the school was cancelled due to snow emergency call from Newton Police Department on Sunday morning. After we got the notice, the principals sent the cancellation notice to all parents immediately, and at the same, the school website was updated, but there are still some parents came to school. In the future, under any unpredicted weather condition, please make sure to check your emails before you come to school, besides emails sent to parents, you can also check our website http://www.newtonchineseschool.org for cancellation update.

Due to winter break, NCLS won’t have school on 2/15 and 2/22. The school will resume on 3/1.

The snow make up date changed to 4/26.  Since 2/8 we have a snow cancellation day, 4/26 will be a school day.  Please check our updated calendar.  https://www.newtonchineseschool.org/calendar.php

For in school Chinese New Year performance, due to schedule conflict with Day School, we have been informed that the stage in auditorium will not be available on March 1 and March 8, therefore, we have to push our in-school performance to 3/15.

Thanks and hope everybody stay warm and safe during snow storm

The entrance is free.  If your child is performing at this event, you can contact your child’s class teacher to get the performing time.

Day School Facilities

Recently we have received several complain emails from Day School teachers regarding removing of classroom materials and not putting desks and chairs into original position.  NCLS admin and board took these cases very seriously.  If we do not follow the classroom maintenance rules, our classrooms will be taken away.  Please keep reminding your child to help maintain the classroom condition.  In addition,  we would like to remind everyone that the computers at the library cannot be used.

Parking problem

We have repeated the school parking rule many times. However,  recently, we found more cars without school parking tag parked inside Day School.  This is unacceptable. If this issue continues, the illegal parked cars will be towed at the owner’s expense.

If you have any question about the class, registration and change classes, please contact principals or stop by library during school time.

As our school’s Chinese New Year Gala is approaching, many performers came to school early to do practice.  Some of them parked the cars inside the Day School which resulted in quite a few teachers could not find parking spots.  Please be aware that only cars with parking permit are allowed to park inside Day School parking lots.

For parents who registered your kids for two early classes, Yo Yo and Chyten Author class, after you drop off your kids, please park your cars outside Day School if you don’t have parking permits.

Dear Parents:

This coming Sunday, 1/25/2015 will be the 1st school day for spring semester of 2015.  If your kids are new students or your kids selected different class from previous semester, please make sure to bring your kids to the right classroom. You can check this link for classroom number:

https://www.newtonchineseschool.org/cgi-bin/main/classlist.pl

– Classroom Maintenance

Recently we have been informed by Day School that one classroom will be closed permanently due to our students removing teacher’s classroom material at multiple occasions.  Although our teachers and the majority of students have tried very hard to maintain the classroom, we still found some students are not following the rules. This case is a big lesson and warning to all of us. While we requested all NCLS teachers stress the school rules to their classes during school time, we think it is necessary to have all parents remind your kids at home that we should not move any materials/ properties in the classroom that belong to Day School and keep the classroom as clean as we can.

-Spring semester registration

The registration for 2015 spring semester is still on. If you have any questions with regard to the registration, class, payment, etc., you can visit the school website or stop by library during school day.

-New classes

1. Chinese Yoyo Class(抖空竹):

12:30-1:45pm, classroom 222. The fee is $145. The teacher will be Ms. Wangju Chen (陈望菊老师) . For 2015 spring semester, this class won’t be in school register system. You can either send email to principals@newtonchineseschool.org or come to the library to register this new class. We still have a few spots open for this class, please register as soon as possible.

2. Chyten classes:  Imagination Authors:  4th – 5th grade

Class Time: 12:30-1:45pm      Class Fee:  $265       Classroom: 218

If you would like to register your child to the classes, please come to the library to register.  This class is not shown in our system.

In Imagination Authors Chyten teachers foster a love of writing by helping students write and publish their own real book! Teachers continually guide the students, providing contextual lessons on writing techniques.  Chyten instructors then synthesize the collective works into one class-wide novel. Each class designs a fantasy world that includes major and minor characters, settings and locales and plot twists. At the end of the course, the students receive their first real novel—published, bound and signed by our Imagination Authors.

– New Classes for spring semester : Chyten classes

This coming spring semester, Newton Chinese school will form a partnership with Chyten (http://www.chyten.com)  to offer couple of classes at the time period 12:30-1:45pm on Sundays.  The class fee is $265/semester.  If you would like to register your child to the classes, please come to the library to register.  These classes will not be shown in the system.

1.   Shark Tank, Jr.:  two levels  2nd – 3rd grade,     4th -5th  grade

In Shark Tank Jr. students play the role of young entrepreneurs as they start with the germ of an idea for a product and business then take it through the entire entrepreneurial process. Students will be working to formulate a business plan, devise a marketing strategy and understand the concepts of wages and profits. The class concludes with our young executives pitching their ideas to a celebrity panel of “sharks”. These young executives will really be taking care of business!

2. Imagination Authors:  two levels   2nd – 3rd grade,     4th -5th  grade
