Dear Teachers:

        Thank you for your preparation, this year’s fire drill went very well: all people in the building were evacuated within five minutes after the alarm was sounded. All our students left the building in an orderly manner and stayed with their teachers. Good job!

        And, many thanks for the effort from all teachers, TAs and school administration members, the classrooms have been kepted in much better shape last Sunday. One thing we need to explain is, the inside of the classrooms are usually cleaned on Friday. The custodian fee we pay to Day School only covers cleaning the area outside the classroom. So the classrooms are not cleaned on Sunday night after we leave the school, therefore, trashes in the trash cans are kept there till Monday afternoon in the classrooms. Please emphasize to your students that, they can not eat in the classroom, and should not throw snack bags in the trash cans even if they did not eat the snack. Please tell students that they need to get their pencils sharpened at home; if they have to sharp their pencils in the classrooms in any case, please make sure they do it over the trash can, not to leave pencil debris on the floors.

        As part of the appreciation to our teachers and staffs, we have got grocery gift cards for teachers and adult teaching assistants. The cards will be distributed on Saturday during the teachers’ party, and/or on Sunday during school.

Dear teachers:

         We hope you and your family have had a pleasant Thanksgiving and got a chance to relax from your busy work. Before we come back to school and renew our teaching activities, there are a few things we would like to bring to your attention:

1. NCSL classroom management rules (牛顿中文学校教室管理条例)

        At the end of school day on Sunday, November 20th, members of NCLS admin. inspected the classrooms after school was over. These were what we discovered: 

        A trash can in Room 213 was found full of food and candy wrappers, a piece of candy was found on the floor (http://www.newtonchineseschool.org/teachers/dengyongqi/Rm213-2011-11-20.JPG) .

        Room 226 was in terrible condition with debris all over the floor (http://www.newtonchineseschool.org/teachers/dengyongqi/Room-226.jpg) And our Admin. member had to vacuum the whole classroom. In several other classrooms, we also found pencil debris on the floor.

        That was what happened right after Day Middle School closed two of our classrooms. These are very disappointing findings, and obviously it is time for all of the NCLS teachers, Admin. team members, Teaching Assistants, and the Board to take serious actions together. Over the past week, Admin. team and NCLS Board have worked together and passed a new set of NCLS classroom rules. It is listed below:

牛顿中文学校教室管理条例

一。老师和助教应提前十五分钟（第一节课）到达教室，检查教室设备、状况、桌椅摆放情况，如果需要搬动，应在白板或纸上记下原始状况，以备第二节课后恢复原状。第二节课老师应在所有学生离开后对教室全面检查后方可离开。如发现问题，应马上向校行政报告。

二。 不要移动老师办公桌上的东西，如果可能可用塑料布覆盖，尽可能不要坐在教师的座位上，以免发生不必要的意外。

三。 老师在上课期间，不得将学生单独（没有成人的情况下）留在教室，如果需要离开，应请学校配备相应的成人协助管理。

四。 要爱护教室的设备，不得私自挪动教室除桌椅、白板外的设备。应使用中文学校提供的板擦、彩水笔和纸张，削铅笔应到垃圾桶处。

五。 保持教室的整洁，不要将纸屑和铅笔屑留在面上；不要在桌上划写；老师和助教应加以监管。

六。 教室如有异常状况，老师应及时与校行政联系解决。

七。 教室内禁止吃食物。

八。 认真填写教室管理表，进行第一和第二节课的交接。第二节课的老师应认真检查教室的状况，如有问题及时向校行政报告。如果第二节课的老师没有报告，出现的问题第二节课的老师将负全部责任。

九。 绘画、书法等课的老师，应特别小心保持桌面和地面的清洁。如果必要，应将桌面和地面用报纸或塑料布覆盖。

十。 注意教室内的垃圾分类。可回收的物品如饮水的塑料瓶，应放入回收箱中（recycle bin）.

十一。新教师需进行教室管理培训后，才可上岗。

十二。校行政人员在每次学校结束时对教室进行检查。对经常违背“教室管理条例”班级的教师和助教，学校将作出包括警告，扣除奖金和解除聘用的处理。

2. Teacher blog contest:

Every teacher should have received a ballot for teacher blog contest. We hope that you have found time to browse other teachers’ blog sites and figured out your favorite ones. This coming Sunday, our Admin. members will come to your classroom collecting the ballot from you. Please take time to fill out the ballot and have it ready before coming to school. Dear Teachers,

Last week’s midterm tests went smoothly. Thank you for your effort on planning and managing the exam! Following are a few notes we would like to share with you.

W-9 Form

To  prepare this year’s I-1099 form, we need a completed W-9 form  from each employee. Please stop by the library to pick up a copy of W-9 or dowload it from here. After complete the form, Please sumbmit it to Qihong. We need to collect all W-9 forms to ensure that all of our teacher and staff can receive their 2011 I-1099 form on time.

Teacher Attendance:

Recently, we have received complains and inquiries about teachers’ absence and we want to bring this to your attention. In any case if you can not come to NCLS, it is school policy that you need to work with school on requesting absence and finding substitute teachers. An undisclosed absence will not only impact payroll accuracy, but also cause confusion to students and parents. As we  communicated with you at the beginning of  this semester, our dean, Xiaoyan Lin will manage teacher attendance and arrange substitute teachers. Please notify her through the email at xyc_lin@yahoo.com, or at phone number 781-863-0086 in advance for any absence.

Class Blog Contest:

As we mentioned in our last week letter, class blog contest starts this week. This Sunday, members of administration and PCC will bring ballot to your class and ask you to select 6 to 10 of your favorite blog sites. Please refer to our early newsletter regarding  the guidelines for selecting your favorite sites. The voting process will be anonymous and you don’t need to put down your name on the ballot. To ensure the fairness of the competition, each teacher, board member and PCC member will receive only one ballot bearing NCLS stamp. The winners will be decided by number of votes they received. If there is a tie, the winners will share the prize. The results will be announced at Teachers Appreciation Party on December 10^th.

Thanksgiving Party

This Saturday, we will have a school wide Thanksgiving party to celebrate this traditional holiday. The party is free to all current teachers, admin members, board members, adult TAs and their families. Please find out the detailed information at http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org

Dear Teachers,

We have a few notes that need your attention,

1. Day School activity
Day School students will have an activity in the auditorium on Sunday till 5pm. The school parking lot is expected to be crowded. Please plan to give yourself extra time to arrive in the classroom, taking into the consideration that you may have to park on the street or even far away.
2. Teaching videos
Many thanks to Jieying and Yibing, this week’s teaching videos are ready and have been posted under teaching resource. Please take time to watch them.
3. NCLS class blog contest
NCLS class blog contest is around the corner. Please visit other classes blog site so you will be ready to vote. We would like to remind all teachers that only classes with active blog site will enter the ballot for voting.
4. Complains from Day School
We have received several complains from Day Middle School for the past Sunday. Please remind your students about school rules. Also, please inspect the classroom after your class. Never leave your students unattended. If you need help, please notify school admin.
5. NCLS Thanksgiving Party
As one of the traditions at NCLS, there will be a Thanksgiving party to celebrate this special day. You will enjoy the performance by various NCLS performing arts classes and students. From singing to dancing, from YOYO playing to poem reciting, a full list of program will present you endless excitement, happiness, joy and thanksgiving. Kids from all ages can participate in games and get a small gift. For ballroom dance fans, it is the chance to heat up the floor and show your moves. It will be a night packed with fun and laughter for the whole family. We welcome you and your family to come and join us for this special night.

This event is free for the families of all NCLS teachers and staffs.

8.  November NCLS school journal is ready for you

Dear teachers:

     This year’s Daylight Savings Time will end on this Sunday, November 6. Please adjust your clock accordingly.

     Due to the snow storm, NCLS was cancelled last Sunday. We will have a make up day on January 15th. As a result of last week’s cancellation, a few changes were made accordingly:

1. For 《中文》 classes, midterm exam was postponed to November 13^th. This week will be for the review lesson. Since we are going to make copies for the test papers for next week, our copy machines will be very busy this Sunday. Please ask parents in your class to print out the review material at home before coming to school. 2. Newton School Committee Election Forum has been moved to this Sunday, November 6 and it will take place in the cafeteria during the first class time (2:00-3:30 PM). This will be a good opportunity for the parents to listen to these candidates and share with them you concern for our children’s school education.  To help our school better prepare for this forum, please send your specific questions or concerns for the Newton School Committee and/or any of these candidates to the Forum coordinator, Anping Shen, at shen07@gmail.com.

     October pay check will be ready for you to pick up at library this Sunday. It has been a long time since last time NCLS updated its employees’ information. We also would like you to verify your personal information with Qihong when you stop by.

     At the beginning of this semester (Letter to Teachers 9/22/2011), we announced that we were going to have a teacher blog contest in mid November. As the approach of November, we invite all of you to vote your favorite blog sites. On November 20th, each one of you will receive a ballot asking you to write down six of your favorite blog sites. The winners will be decided based on the total votes they received. For those who need any assistance to build/improve their blog site, please contact Weidong as we have four trained parent volunteers ready to help.

In addition to NCLS teachers and staffs, we are also going to invite all board and PCC members to vote their favorite class blogs. When you have chance, please take time to browse NCLS course list  and click each teacher’s name to access the blog site of each class.

NCLS is closed today due the electric power outage caused by the snow storm. The make-up date is January 15, 2012.

Dear Teachers,

Our school has been in full blooming for two months. We’d like to extend many thanks to faculties and staffs for the talent and effort. From time to time, we get calls and emails from families wanting to send kids to our school, simply because of their believe that NCLS is a reputable, responsible, and reliable educational institute that will provide the best learning experience to their kids. We certainly want to live up to the expectations, and we are ready to take more challenges to be the best.

The Teachers’ Evaluation process has started and has been going well; New videos have been posted on the blog. Please take this opportunity to learn from peers and to provide feedback to help each one of us.

Here are a couple of updates that need your attention:

1. Please send email to the parents to print their own copy of the review materials for the midterm. The school printer will be heavily occupied this Sunday for printing the testing sheets.
