Letter to NCLS teachers on 19-Dec-2013

Dear teachers,

We do not have classes for next two weeks.  We hope you enjoy the holiday time with your family.

Our spring registration has already started. However, we noticed a good amount of parents do not realize that they have to register the classes by themselves even if their children stay in the same classes. Therefore, could you please send out an email to your class parents to remind them register the class.   If they do not register by 1/4, they may lose their seats in the class.  The registration procedure link is http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org/registration-procedure-for-spring-2014/

Due to the snow storm, we rescheduled our teachers and staff holiday party to 12/28 Saturday at CCCC.  You do not need to sign up if you haven’t done so, just come to enjoy the food and have fun.  If you have not picked up your gift card, you can pick up in the party.  Otherwise, you can pick up the card on 1/5 at the school.

Have a wonderful holiday and enjoy the family time!

Letter to NCLS teachers on 14-Nov-2013

Dear Teachers,

As we heading into the second half of fall semester, we are happy to see that the school is on the right track: classrooms are managed well, our teachers work diligently in their teaching and the communication and collaboration among teachers are healthy and inspiring. We thank you all for your effort to make this school such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Here are a few reminders and notes we’d like to share with you:

1. If you will be late or absence for the class, please inform Xiaoyan Lin by either email xyc_lin@yahoo.com or call her cell 781.367.8671, or you can email us principals@newtonchineseschool.org or call Ling Zheng’s cell 781.296.2486.  Lately, we found in some cases that both teacher and TA are late for the class, so students were left alone in the classroom for some time.  We understand there could be some last minute delay due to traffic or personal matters.  We hope you can inform us timely so we can get your class covered.  Again, our goal here is to ensure our classes are in order and well managed.

2. Regarding the teaching material and supplies, we would like teachers send us a request before buying them.  Approval from the principal is required. Every year, we have a budget for teachers to buy their teaching related materials.  We will support teachers in any way we can to enhance the teaching quality. Meanwhile, we’d like to track on what we spend so we are in line with our school’s financial policy.

3. Chinese New Year Celebration Program Submission:

As the winter holiday season getting closer, we are planning several big events for our NCLS community.  Besides the recently announced Thanksgiving party for NCLS families and the Dec Teachers and Staff party, the other two big events are the Chinese New Year celebration inside the school on 1/12/2014 and outside at Newton North High on 1/18/14.  Every year, we want to plan well ahead to ensure that we have successful celebration events.  This year is no exception.  We would like teachers and parents to submit programs for these two events now.  Please use the following link for submission. Please note that the submission deadline is 12/14.  We are looking forward to having many wonderful performances.

4. Adult Leaders Recruitment Announcement – Support Education Program

In April vacation, students group of Supporting Education Plan is going to visit Chong-Ren-Yi-Zhong(江西崇仁一中), our partner school of year 2013-2014, in Jiangxi , China . Last year, our dear Yao Jieyin Laoshi and Liang Nan Laoshi led the students group and showed great caring and leadership during the trip.  Now the Support Education Plan working committee is looking for two adult leaders for this trip.  The requirements for adult leader are posted in school web site, and all teachers and administration staff in NCLS are welcome to apply. The adult leader’s responsibilities include being with the group for the entire trip (4/21 to 4/25, 2014) and leading all activities during the stay in Chong-Ren-Yi-Zhong. Experiences of working with teenagers are preferred.  If you are interested, please contact Education Support team at: supporteducation@newtonchineseschool.org

5. Auditorium will not be available this Sunday

We were just notified by Day school that they will have musical rehearsal in the auditorium from 1-5pm this Sunday.  For Adult Aerobic Exercise, the class will move to the 2nd floor gym this Sunday.  Children Chinese Folk Dance class will move to outside of the auditorium.  A separate email will be sent out to students and teachers for these classes.

Thanks and see you this Sunday.

Letter to NCLS teachers on 7-Nov-2013

Dear Teachers,

This week, our letter covers the following topics:

Open Communication:

Last week we had our first Principals’ Open House.  Thanks to the teachers who dropped by and talked to us.  We appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.  We will definitely take them into consideration in our operation.  To continue promote an open communication environment and help our school grow stronger, NCLS Board created a mailbox:  feedback@newtonchineseschool.org for all parents and teachers.  Please feel free to drop your thoughts and suggestions to this mailbox.  We are certain that your comments, advice and suggestions would greatly help our school’s development.  NCLS’s thriving depends on our community’s involvement.

Thanksgiving Party

As the weather getting colder each day, our spirit is warmed up by the upcoming holiday thoughts.  We’d like to invite you to join our annual Thanksgiving celebration party on Nov. 23   7-11pm @ ACAS Center in Woburn. http://www.newtonchineseschool.org/principal/ThanksgivingPartyflyerfinal.pdf

Teachers’ Club

Last year, we started our Teachers’ Club in order to promote a healthy environment and increase our teachers’ outside classroom collaboration.  We are happy to see that the club has developing nicely with more teacher joining and having fun.  Currently, we have two activity group – 教师腰鼓队 and 教师服装秀队.  These two groups have routine practices before or after school.  If you are interested, please contact 蔡洁老师 for 腰鼓队 and 赵咏梅老师 for 服装秀.  We encourage more teachers to join the club and enjoy the activity.  Also if you have ideas or suggestions, such as forming another activity group, please let us know.  We have a group of talented teachers.  We are sure our teachers will make the club better and stronger.

Letter to NCLS teachers on 31-Oct-2013

Dear Teachers:

This coming Sunday our regular Zhongwen class will have mid-term exam.  We, the principals, want to utilize this time to have a Principal Open House for teachers who can step out for a few minutes during the exam time.  We know that each Sunday our teachers are so busy that they may not have time to talk with us for their thoughts.  This is an opportunity to do so.  We will be at classroom #203 during the first class period.  If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please drop by and meet us.  This is not a mandatory meeting, but rather an open communication channel we set up for teachers to let us know how things are going.  We will have such open communication forum periodically during the school year.

In addition, a few notes and reminders for teachers:

1.  End of Daylight Savings:  This coming Sunday 11/3 is the end of Daylight Savings. Please turn your clock back for an hour, which means we have one more hour for sleeping – wonderful.

2. The storage room in the library:  please do not store your personal stuff there. NCLS only uses the two shelves in the far end of the storage room.  It’s getting very crowded.

3. Reissued Checks:  As a result of our financial review, we reissued some checks which were issued before 12/31/02 and had never been cleared.  Some teachers received these reissued checks and were confused.  This is not an error.  If you have questions regarding your pay, please contact us at any time.

4. Dictionary:  The school bought some dictionaries (汉英双解新华字典)which you can borrow for your teaching.  You can sign out the dictionary for a whole school year.  Please ask Ling Zheng if you want to borrow it.

5. Talent Show:  The talent show, which is one of the fund raising event for our Support China Education Program,  is on this coming Sunday from 4-7pm in the second floor auditorium.  Some of your students may perform in this show for a good cause.  If you get a chance, please come and cheer for them.

Last but not least, our Thanksgiving Party is coming up on November 23 Saturday from 7pm to 11pm at ACAS Center in Woburn.  Please see the details in the flyer: http://www.newtonchineseschool.org/principal/ThanksgivingPartyflyerfinal.pdf

We hope you can join us to celebrate this wonderful holiday.

Thanks and see you all on Sunday.

Dear Teachers,

Here are couple of notifications for this coming Sunday:

1. Teacher’s Contract:  Based on the Board decision, starting from this year, all teachers will receive teaching contract from the school.  We are a bit late sending out the contract this year, nevertheless,  we will get this to you this weekend.  You will get two copies of the contract.  We need one copy back with your signature.  Please feel free to let us know any questions regarding the contract.

2. Grade Leaders Meeting 年级组长会议:  this Sunday 1-1:45pm at the library.  Each  semester we have two grade leaders meeting.  The meeting is an important communication channel for the school and all teachers. If you have any thoughts or suggestions for the school, please talk to your grade leader.  She/he will certainly bring that to our meeting. On the other hand, your grade leader will bring back to each grade the good ideas and practices that we share during the meeting.  Our goal is to continuously improving our teaching quality and help every teacher thrive in our school.
