Letter to NCLS Teachers 19-Feb-2015

Dear Teachers:

Happy Chinese New Year!

Due to winter break, NCLS won’t have school this coming Sunday(2/22).  The school will resume on 3/1.

Since 2/8 is a snow cancellation day, 4/26 will be a school day.  Please mark your calendar.

For in school Chinese New Year performance, due to schedule conflict with Day School, we have been informed that the stage in auditorium will not be available on March 1 and March 8, therefore, we have to push our in-school performance to 3/15. For the classes that are going to perform in school on 3/15, please inform your students this change.  On 3/1, we will have regular classes.

Thanks and hope all families have a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.

Classroom Maintenance

This is a repeated topic, but it seems never ending. Here is an email we just received from  the Day school room teacher to complain what happened in her classroom. Please read the email carefully for things that we should pay more attention.

Recently, I have been disappointed in the condition of my classroom after Chinese School. Each Monday, I have to spend an extra 15 minutes cleaning up from Chinese School. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating, as I have to spend valuable school time redoing what I had already set up. This past weekend, for example, I found all of my drawers and cabinets open, all of my desks and chairs were in disarray, my white boards had been erased, my lab table had been tampered with, and there was graffiti on my desks.  Moving forward, I would greatly appreciate it if you spoke to the classroom teacher about my concerns, and gently ask him/her to:

  • 1.Put all stools up on the desks, and leave rows as they are
  • 2. Erase all of your content from my white boards
  • 3. Do NOT “swipe” my objective, agenda and homework board. It is always halfway erased when I return.
  • 4. Do NOT go through my cabinets and other drawers.
  • 5. Do NOT touch materials on the lab prep table (the big table in the middle of the classroom).
  • 6. Clean desks with Lysol spray before you leave, as there are always doodles on them.
  • 7. Make sure all papers are picked up and recycled.

Please repeat the school rule to your class this coming Sunday.

– Classroom Management

Recently we received report from a Day School teacher that the property in a classroom was damaged by students while no adults were in the classroom.  In this week’s newsletter to parents, we remind all families that the school requests all students who arrive earlier than 1:45pm to stay at the cafeteria or library, not to go into the classrooms.  This is for safety and classroom management considation.  We would like students to be attended by teachers or TAs while they are in the classrooms.  The classroom teachers and TAs are required to be at the classroom at 1:45pm.   Please remind your students not to touch any Day School belongings in the classroom.
