Letter to NCLS Teachers 18-Sept-2014

Dear Teachers:

As the busy and exciting first two weeks has passed, we gradually move onto the normal track.  Thanks a lot for your hard work and support. Our school started on a strong and positive tune.  Here are some areas that we still need to pay attention to:

1. We have noticed that some teachers did not check the updated student list in the system.  As a result, students who registered to the class have been sent to the library by mistake.  As the registration process winding down, we still have some new students joining in. Please check the system periodically and take the class roster (点名) each Sunday to make sure that students on the list are matching ones sitting in the class.  This process will also help you to get familiar with each student.

2.  Parent teacher communication:  The school requires all teachers, including non-language teachers, to communicate with your class parents in the beginning of school year to build parent-teacher relationship(Adult Class is optional).  We have noticed that most teachers have done a great job in communicating with parents.  We’ve also heard feedbacks from some parents that they haven’t received anything from their child’s class teacher.  Please do so as soon as you can if you haven’t.  For all Chinese teachers , if you mainly use emails for parent communication, please cc your email to deanofncls@gmail.com.  You are also encouraged to use our teacher’s blog for communication.

3. Teachers Club:  To enrich teachers’ outside classroom activity and bond our teachers community, we have two teachers activity group within the club. One is Mulan Sword/drum (木兰剑/腰鼓)group and the other is fashion show (时装表演) group.  We encourage our teachers to join the club activities and enjoy the fun. If you are interested, please contact Cai Jie (蔡洁老师)jiecai2004@yahoo.com for sword/drum group and Zhao Yongmei (赵咏梅老师)maryzhao718@gmail.com for fashion group.  These two group have just started their new school year practice. We hope more teachers could join their fun activities.  If you have any idea to form new activity group for our teachers, please let us know.

4.  Our gifts (tissue and markers) and letter to Day school teachers have been distributed to all classrooms, thanks a lot for all of your cooperation and understanding.  For the past two weeks, we had a very smooth classroom management. Let’s keep up with it.

Here is this week’s newsletter to parents:   http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org/

Thanks and see you this Sunday.

Letter to NCLS Teachers 9-11-2014

Dear Teachers,

Thanks for your hard work and support on the first day of school. We had a busy yet very organized day last Sunday. This year, we had more than 1300 students signed up for our school. As we growing bigger, we will continue trying our best to make NCLS a safe, enjoyable and quality learning environment for the community.  Here are a few reminders for you:

1.  Student List:  Please check your class student list in the system again before this Sunday’s class.  On the first school day, we had quite a few parents coming in to register or change the classes.  Please make sure the list in the system matches your class student names. If you notice any student sitting in your class does not have his/her name on the list, please let us know ASAP.

2.  Classroom Management:  We have a very good news – for the first week, we did not get any reports from Day School about classroom problems. What a terrific job we did!  Thanks to all teachers who really paid attention to the classroom maintenance.  Let’s keep up the good work and make sure the desks/chairs remain at the same position after we finish our classes.

3.  Classroom Arriving:  Please make sure to arrive the classroom by 1:45pm.  If for any reason you cannot arrive on time, please have your TA to cover the classroom.  If you see any students arrive the classroom before 1:45pm, please let them wait at the cafeteria first.  Please note that this year we need to enforce this rule strictly to make sure all students will be attended at the classroom.

Thanks again for your hard work in school opening day.  With a good start, we are sure that we will have another successful school year ahead.  See you this coming Sunday.

Letter to NCLS teachers on 4-Sep-2014

Dear Teachers,

Welcome back to Newton Chinese School!  We hope you all had a relaxing summer and are fully energized to start the school this Sunday.  As you all know, the first day is always an exciting and active day for our students.  For new students, it maybe a nervous day for them. Let’s work together to make it a pleasant day for all.  Here are a few reminders for you:

1. Please arrive the classroom by 1:45pm. For teachers who get a different classroom than last year, you might want to arrive even a little earlier to check the classroom condition.  Please let us know immediately if you notice any problem.  In addition, please try to communicate with the second class teacher who is going to use the same classroom to make sure that all condition will be well maintained.

2.  If you haven’t done so, please send email to your class parents before Sunday to introduce yourself and communicate class expectation.  If you have trouble sending email through our system, please email our website admin Wang Weidong laoshi at   weidong@yahoo.com     A  10-minute open house for parents on the first day is an option as this can be a good opportunity for parents to meet the teacher and ask questions.

3. Please take the class roster to make sure the student names on the list are matching everyone in your class.  During the first few weeks, please check the system periodically to note if there are any changes in your class list.  Please let us know if any student sitting in your class is not on the registration list.

We thank all of you for your hard work in preparing a good start.  Best wishes to all for a wonderful new school year!

Letter to NCLS teachers on 5-June-2014

Dear Teachers,

We have three more weeks left before the summer break.  Let’s keep up with the good work and finish this semester on a high note!

1.  Please have a final student checking by using your class roster in the system.  Recently we have found couple of cases that either the student did not enroll in spring semester but sit in the classroom for the whole semester, or the student’s name is on the class roster but the student shows up in another class every Sunday.  These mistakes should not last for a whole semester if the teachers used the updated spring semester class roster in the system to check their classes.  Please note that your semester-end bonus is affected by the total number of students in your class, therefore you want to make sure all students sitting in your class are registered correctly to your class.

If you have trouble viewing the class roster in the system, please let us know. It’s a very important tool for you to get to know your class.

2. A friendly reminder:  6/14  All Teachers Training.

Location:  CCCC (剑桥中文学校 411 Waverley Oaks Rd, Waltham, MA 02452 )

Time: 6:30-9:30pm.

6:30-7pm will be dinner, training will be held right after.  We will also announce the new school leaders in this meeting.

This in-house training is mandatory to all Chinese class teachers.  If for any reason you can not come, please let us know. Also note that $30 of your training budget is reserved for this in-house training.

3. Reimbursement – Please submit your reimbursement if any.  All reimbursement for this semester need to be submitted before or on 6/22.

See you on Sunday.

Letter to NCLS teachers on 29-May-2014

Dear Teachers,

Hope all had a nice Memorial Day weekend.  We will have school this coming Sunday 6/1.  Our last school day of this semester is 6/22.

This past weekend, thirty teachers from our school participated the two-day ACS Conference at Burlington Marriott.  The workshops that presented by our teachers had good participation and received very positive feedbacks from audience. It was a great learning experience for our teachers too to hear so many different workshops about Chinese language teaching.  It was also a rare opportunity for our teachers getting together to share thoughts and have a fun time.

Our Board President Yongqi Deng joined the teachers in the conference on 5/24 . Vice Principal Ling Zheng, along with Xiaoyan Lin and Yi Tian, organized and hosted ACS Speech Contest.  The two students (our school’s speech contest representatives) received 1st and 2nd place respectively, in their age group.  Sarah Liu, our journal chief editor, along with a few other volunteers, came to the conference to record some of the precious moments.  We will post pictures, videos, and other materials about this conference on our school website later.

Here is this week’s newsletter to parents: http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org/?p=2237

See you this Sunday!

Letter to NCLS teachers on 22-May-2014

Dear Teachers,

We do not have school this coming Sunday 5/25. Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend!

1. ACS conference this coming weekend 5/24 and 5/25

This year we have 32 teachers signed up for the conference.  We hope this event will bring some learning and fun experience to our teachers.  We will try to video tape some of the workshops and put on our website.  If for any reason you cannot join the event, but would like to learn from the workshop, you can check the video later.

2. Upcoming teachers training on 6/14

Our annual in-house teachers training will be held on 6/14 at CCCC (剑桥中文学校)from 6:30-9:30pm.  6:30-7pm will be dinner time, and training will be held right after.

This year we would like to have the training in a form of panel discussion.  We will have three panel leaders who each will give a short speech on a topic, then the majority of time will be given to all teachers to ask questions or have discussion on how this could help our teaching.  We would like to hold this training in a very relaxed yet interactive way and our hope is to help teachers use what we learned right into our teaching.

This training is mandatory to all teachers.  If for any reason you cannot attend, please let Xu Hua know.

3. 2013-2014 School Year Reimbursement – Deadline 6/22.  Please submit your reimbursement before the deadline, so we can process in this school year.

4. Last but not least, please check your class students when school resumes on 6/1.  We found a student has been sitting in a classroom this semester while not registering to this class.  Keep in mind that the total number of registered students in your class will be factored into your year-end bonus.

Here is this week’s newsletter: http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org/?p=2233

See you on 6/1.
