Letter to NCLS Teachers 8-October-2015

Dear Teachers:

There is no school on 10/11/2015 due to Clumbus Day, hope everybody have a relax weekend. The School will resum on 10/18/2015.

-Fire Drill

This past Sunday, we successfully finished our annual fire drill. Thanks a lot for all  teaches/TAs  for all of your hard work, led your classes out of the building quickly and orderly. The whole building was emptied less than five minutes which meets the requirements of Newton fire department. However, there are a couple of  important things that need to be improved:

1. After all people exited the building, there are still a lot of people stood near the building doors instead of walking far away from building as quickly as possible, made the other people difficult to move out quickly.

2. The main entrance driveway is not clear. The majority of parents just stood on the main entrance (driveway) that will make other people difficult to move forward, and even worse, the fire trucks will be difficult to drive in.

The purpose of the fire drill is let everybody get familiar with the general emergence exit process, strengthen the urgent feeling, know where to go if something happens in the building. The safety of our community is always the school’s top priority.

-Writing Contest

The registration for the 4th ‘Qiao Bao’ Chinese assay contest already started and the dead line is 11/15, please encourage your students to participate. The main contact is  Sara Liu:  sarahliu08@gmail.com , She will be in library from 2:00 – 3:30 pm during school time.

-Stipend code

The Sept pay check was mailed to everybody a couple of days ago, and we received some questions about the code.  The code in the memo field stands for:

If you have any questions regarding to your check, please let me know.

Letter to NCLS Teachers 1-October-2015

Dear Teachers:

School just passed the 1st month, and everything seems running smoothly, this is reflected by no complaints received from Day school so far, thanks a lot for your hard work and cooperation. Only one thing brought us attention, more reports were received regarding the students forgot and left personal stuff here and there, please remind your class this issue. There are a few important things that will be happening in the following weeks:

-Fire Drill

This coming Sunday 10/4, we will have annual fire drill. For the school which has more than 2000 students, this is a very important safety practice for NCLS students and parents.  We need to make sure that all safety requirements are met during this practice.

The fire drill will be around 2:30 pm. Therefore, all the teachers, especially for the 2nd class teachers and TAs, please read the School Emergency Procedure carefully and find the exit that your classroom is using.  Here is the link to the evacuation map.

https://www.newtonchineseschool.org/evacation.php

Please organize your class and evacuate immediately once the alarm goes off, follow the instruction of PCC and admin staff.  The Emergency Procedure link shows the gathering places for different exits.  Please stay there and wait for returning instruction.

During the fire drill, please stay with your class all the time, count the numbers of your class before and after the fire drill.

-Registration

The registration is on and will be extended to 10/12/2015, please count the class list due to student switch class or new registered student.

-Class description update

From the current course list in school website, there is very limited information posted there. It is very hard for parents to make decision, which course should be selected for their children. In order to make the school website more informative, We request all teachers write a brief introduction of your course, this introduction will include the following main points: what kind of textbook is used of your class, what is the general teaching outline, what level (or age) of students will be good to register your class, what is the teaching goal at the end of school year, etc. We expect the class description short but informative. After you finish your class description, please send it to school web specialist Sara Liu: sarahliu08@gmail.com. Thanks a lot for your support.

– President Volunteer Service Award

We have just received a notification that NCLS has been approved to be an official certifying organization for President Volunteer Service Award.  It is a tremendous honor for our school to be able to bestow President recognition to our volunteers.  Currently, we are working on a guideline about how NCLS should certify our volunteer’s service hours for the president award.  Once we finalize the guideline, we will inform the community.  We would love to see more students and families join our volunteer work.

Dear Teachers:

-No School on 5/24/2015

There is no school this coming Sunday due to holiday. The school will resume on 5/31/2015.  We only have three school days left – 5/31, 6/7 and 6/14.

-Training Summary

Thanks to the teachers and adult TAs who attended the trainings in April and May.  We appreciate that a lot of teachers attended multiple trainings.  We had great discussions in the training and learned a lot from each other.  Since this is the first year we use this kind of training format, please send your feedback to us and let us know your thoughts and suggestions, so we can do better next year!

Here is the recording website that we mentioned in the training: http://vocaroo.com/

Some teachers use this site to ask students record their reading and then email to teachers.  This is a really good way to have students practice their speaking at home.

Here are two Youtube series that Sheng Lanlan (盛兰兰) laoshi recommended for higher grade students to watch at home and practice their daily conversation. You can send to your class parents if you thinks it’s suitable to your curriculum.
