Dear Teachers:

–Newton Chinese Cultural Festival

由牛顿中文学校和牛顿市华人协会在牛顿市政厅共同举办的2016年中国文化节活动于三月12日获得圆满成功！

根据初步估计，前后共有近700多人参加了这次活动，其中有近1/3为非华裔家庭。牛顿市市长Setti Warren，牛顿市议员Jacob Auchincloss，学校委员会委员 Margaret Albright, Diana Fisher 以及 Sheryl Lappin 出席了这次活动并发言。他们对牛顿华人对社区多元文化的发展做出了充分的肯定，Jacob 更进一步鼓励牛顿华人在政治上作同样参与，使得华人在牛顿的影响力得以进一步提高。许多首次参加活动的牛顿居民对主办方带来各种精彩的活动，对中文学校绘画组老师们临场发挥所创作的书法绘画和演出团体所表演的具有传统中华特色的武术，民乐和民族舞所折服。

自从筹备委员会半年前开始准备这次文化节后，许多中文学校的老师利用工作之余，积极参与策划，拉赞助，新闻媒体联系，brochure设计印刷，会场设计装饰等工作，正是由于他/她们的顶力支持，这次文化节才办的如此成功。籍此机会，牛顿中文学校及牛顿市华人协会对所有参与的老师，家长，志愿者，演出团体和赞助商家表示衷心的感谢。

-Speech Contest

请把演讲比赛时间更改通知email给你班家长。因为时间冲突，校内演讲比赛日期向后延一个星期。既比赛报名截止日为3月20日.比赛日期定于3月27和4月3q日。有关详细比赛具体事宜将会在下周发给大家。如已报过名但没有填演讲和朗诵题目的，请把题目email给教务主任林老师：xyc_lin@yahoo.com。如打算报名，切记，不要忘记把题目填上。

-Book Fair

牛顿中文学校与中国科学出版集团美国公司共同举办的“中华文化书刊音像大展”，将于本周日，3月20日在Day School 一楼餐厅隆重举行，时间从9:00 am-5:00 pm。届时，由中国300多家出版社，音像公司出品的数千种中文书籍、电影、电视剧DVD和笔墨宣纸荟萃一堂，供学生、家长、以及广大中文和中国文化爱好者选购。

-Community News

Here is the latest incident happened in Day Middle school. Although this incident has nothing to do with NCLS, it’s a lesson for us to teach our students,  any bully, hate words and behavior  are absolutely not allowed.

NEWTON — A third incident of anti-Semitic graffiti was found on a bathroom wall at a Newton middle school last week, as controversy swirled around the principal’s handling of the first two incidents earlier in the school year.

A letter about the latest incident — in which “Burn the Jews” was again scrawled on the wall of a boys’ bathroom at the F.A. Day Middle School — went out to parents over the weekend, something that didn’t happen the first time those words were found at the school in October. -Art Work Exhibition 

Thanks a lot for  Shen Laoshi organizing the annual art work exhibition and also appreciate all art teachers’s participation. It’s a very good way to present each class unique style and the achievement of your students, at the same time, it will create the opportunity for new students to learn what class they should choose. The exhibition will be starting from the March 20th.

-Classroom Management and Safety Training Program

To minimize the various classroom issues,  thanks for Ming, who initiated the classroom management training program, and also thanks for Day school that assigned a very experienced senior teacher to help us to solve this long time issue. This is a great opportunity for all of NCLS teachers to work with day school teacher to minimize any potential classroom issues in future.

The 1st time meeting with Steve this past Sunday was very successful. The specific training schedule will be sent in near future. This training program is mandatory for all teachers. Please try your best to attend this training program.

-Copy and Print

Based on the school policy, school won’t be responsible for copying any review materials, please send the review material to your class and ask the parent to print it out at home.

-Yard Sale 

The annual craft fair/yard sale will be held in NCLS on this coming Sunday, March 6, 2016. This year’s craft fair include a yard sale and bake sale. The items are sold based on what you want to pay except those labeled with specific price. All proceeds go to 2016 Support Education Program (支教). Unsold items will send to local charities/churches. -Recruiting Temp School Journal Assistant

Newton Chinese School Journal has been an very important archive to reflect all kinds of school events and teaching activities, and has become very popular and an important information resources.

Right now, we are seeking an individual for Spring semester 2016, who is willing to and capable of covering school activities and events by taking photos (or videos), and writing reports for the school journal, as well as working as team player with other members of the Department of Communications. Happy Chinese New Year!

Due to winter break, NCLS won’t have school on 2/14 and 2/21. Hope everybody have a safe and relax break. The school will resume on 2/28.

-On Campus Chinese New Year Gala

On 1/31, the on-campus Chinese New Year Gala was successfully ended with the host by NCLS event committee and PCC. Thanks a lot for all classes which did the fantastic performance, for all teachers who spent tremendous effort to make your students performed like professional little stars, for all MCs, admin staff and volunteers who have been working tirelessly and tried their best to support this event, make this Gala an unforgettable event in 2016.

Our annual Speech Competition is around the corner.  Please read the following competition description carefully, there are some minor changes  for this year’s competition format.

今年校内的比赛仍分为演讲比赛和朗诵比赛两部分。根据美东中文学会（ACS）和新英格兰中文学会（NEACS）的规定，演讲比赛的题目可以自定，但不得抄袭书报杂志或网路文章。 朗诵比赛可选用他人的作品，不限制题目内容。所有比赛必须在规定的两分三十秒到三分钟之内完成。低于或超过这个时间都将被扣除一定的分数。校内比赛报名截止日为3月6日。比赛日期目前定于3月20，27两日。如果报名人数较多4月3日宜可作为比赛日。学校将选出7名具有丰富教学经验的中文课老师组成比赛裁判组。有关比赛的具体事宜学校会在报名截止后通知参赛学生的家长。参赛学生将根据年龄分为三个组：低年级组（六至八岁）；中年级组（九至十二岁）；高年级组（十三至十八岁）

-Out School Chinese Spring Gala

With the leadership of NCLS event committee(led by Rui Chen and Jie Cai),  NCLS 2016 out-school Chinese Spring Gala was successfully ended at Regis college. Thanks a lot for all performers, MCs，PCC , admin staff, teachers, board members and volunteers who have been involved in and supported this event, makes this gala successful and an unforgettable night.

– In school Chinese New Year Performance this Sunday 2/7

NCLS EC and PCC will host Chinese New Year Performance at Day school auditorium at the 2nd floor starting from 2:00 pm this Sunday. If your class is going to perform, please cooperate with PCC and lead your class or grade to the auditorium on time. The classes without performance still follow the normal schedule.

-Day School Library and classroom Issues

I would like to circulate the latest email (see below) received from Day Middle school regarding to some library issues they found. Please send this message to your class parents, don’t leave any newspapers and water bottles at library, cafeteria, classrooms, gym and other public places.

‘I’d like to ask your cooperation in keeping the Day library neat. This morning I had to spend at least 20 minutes moving furniture back in to place and throwing out Chinese newspapers and water bottles, time I would rather have spent working with my students.

Please make sure to leave the furniture in the same arrangement you find it in, and ask your parents to clean up after themselves.’

In addition to the library issue we received last Sunday, we have received several complaining emails from Day School teachers regarding to removing the classroom materials and not putting desks and chairs into original position.  NCLS admin and board took these cases very seriously.  If we do not follow the classroom maintenance rules, our classrooms will be taken away.  Please keep reminding your class to help maintain the classroom condition.

Dear Teachers：

The Fall 2015 semester is successfully over, and thanks a lot for all our teachers hard work. This coming Sunday, 1/31 will be the 1st school day of Spring 2016, hopefully, with all of your support, we will have another fruitful year.

-Classroom management

The classroom management has been a long time tough topic which we have been talking and emphasizing, but we still receive the complaint from Day Middle school teacher once a while. Please take a couple mins in the 1st spring semester class, repeat the rules to your class, the removal and touching the Day school room teacher’s teaching and personal belongings are not allowed.

-New class

应广大跳舞爱好者要求，牛顿中文学校国标舞高级班将于2016春季正式开课，网上注册现已开始。主讲老师由大波士顿地区著名舞蹈家张馨梅老师担任。这个班是为有一定国标舞基础的学生继续深造提高而设。 上课时间是每周日12：30－1：45PM。 这个班将详细解析每个动作的基本要领以及音乐、节奏的配合，使学生最大限度地掌握国标舞的特点，进一步提高舞蹈的水平，同时能够在社交舞场合发挥自如，提高学舞的兴趣。将要逐渐学习的舞种包括International Style的十种舞（华尔兹，探戈，狐步舞， 伦巴，恰恰恰，等）及一些American Style的舞。

-New Teacher Hiring Guidelines

With the development of NCLS, more and more parents and senior students have interest in join NCLS as teacher or TA. In order to make this process more formal and to create an equal opportunity to all applicants, NCLS board drafted and approved the new teacher hiring guidelines. Basically, all applicants have to submit the resume to school dean(xyc_lin@yahoo.com) for teacher’s position, and go through interview with teacher recruiting committee (Principal, Vice Principal and Dean). For entertainment class, the grade leader or senior teacher will be involved in interview process. After the trial class, the offer letter will be sent to applicant by principal.  For TA application, please submit the application form to Tian Yi lao shi (yitianzh@hotmail.com).

As the current NCLS teacher, if you are going to leave school, please inform school admin (principal, vice principal and Dean) in person at least two weeks ahead of your departure date.

-Class Close Policy

Based on school policy, the minimum number of student to open a class is 6. At the end of registration, if the enrollment could not reach 6, the class will be closed. The teacher will be switched to either TA or to other class if the position available.

-Parking  Permit 

Due to very limited parking space, there are quite a few number of teachers, especially new teachers who don’t have parking permit, and school will subsidize $20 per semester to the teachers without parking permit.

Dear Teachers:

This coming Sunday, 1/24 will be the last school day of Fall 2015, thanks a lot for all of you great job in Fall Semester, and wish we have a  perfect ending. The spring semester will start from 1/31.

-Registration

The spring registration is still on and enter into the 3rd period, open to all students including new families. During this period, most of the classes were already full. But for some reasons, some of your current semester students didn’t register and their parents want put their kids back to your class, for this kind of case, we will ask for the parent to get class teacher’s signed approval note. Please send the reminder to your class parents to register their kids if they haven’t done the registration.

-NCLS Chinese New Year Spring Gala

2016 Newton Chinese School Spring Gala will be on January 30, 7:00-9:30 PM, the address: Final Art Center Regis College, 235 Wellesley St, Weston  MA. The finely selected programs include NCLS classes and also some state well known performers. The ticket selling will be on 1/24 at school Library.

If your class or your grade  is going to perform on 1/30, please take a couple of mins to teach and emphasize some general public behavior rule on the 1/24th class, and send the message to your class parents some general requirements for performance on 1/30. We wish everybody have a safe and enjoyable night on 1/30.

On 1/17,  Chinese classes (暨南教材) will have fall semester final exam review.    Please send your grade review material to your class parents and inform them to print out a copy at home and let the student to bring it to class on Sunday. Please note that the school does not copy review material for students.

-Registration

The spring registration is still on and enter into the 3rd period, open to all students including new families. please send the reminder to your class parents to register their kids if they haven’t done the registration.

-NCLS Chinese New Year Spring Gala

2016 Newton Chinese School Spring Gala will be on January 30, 7:00-9:30 PM, the address: Final Art Center Regis College, 235 Wellesley St, Weston  MA. The finely selected programs include NCLS classes and also some state well known performers. The ticket selling will be on 1/17, 1/24 at school Library.

If your class or your grade  is going to perform on 1/30, and order food, please send the head counts to Xu Hua Lao shi （juliahx@gmail.com） as early as possible。Please pick up your class tickets from PCC desk at library.

-Safety

The real winter is coming, the weather and road condition become worse, please follow the rule and pay more attention during entering, parking and exiting the school. The safety has always been the top priority to all of us.

I would like to share with you a very exciting news,  the Chinese American Association of Newton(CAAN): http://www.caan-ma.org/ was founded recently, and will host the Chinese New Year party on 2/6, Saturday. Please read the following invitation letter and register as early as possible.

      牛顿市是大波士顿地区华人聚居的城市之一。为了进一步丰富牛顿华人生活，帮助大家交流信息互相帮助，营造一个更温馨的社区和家园；也为了团结一起参与牛顿的社区管理和教育与文化等事务，我们发起了在牛顿成立华人协会的行动。欢迎所有在牛顿居住和拥有公司企业或经办商务的华人加入我们大家的牛顿华人协会。

      中国传统节日春节快到了，借此佳节，牛顿华人协会成立聚会将于2月6日周六晚5:30pm– 8:30pm在Newton Center举行。请牛顿的华裔居民和商家踊跃参加。聚会的晚餐(6-7pm)里大家将品尝到各家烹调的和当地中餐馆定做的美食，会上还能欣赏本地文艺爱好者和团体演出的节目。我们欢聚一堂迎新春，体验快乐温暖的大家庭气氛。聚会上，我们也将向各位介绍牛顿华人协会，包括各位义工和协会服务构思，并征求大家对牛顿华人协会发展壮大的高见和协作。

Dear Teachers:

Happy New Year! Wish you and family had a great holiday. The school will resume this coming Sunday, January 10.

-Registration

The Spring registration is still on and moved into the 2nd period, please send the reminder to your class parents to register their kids if they haven’t done the registration, and also please be aware of your class change during this period of time.

-School rule

Please take a few mins to re-emphasize the school rule, especially for the case that the fire alarm went off at the end of school year.

-Pick up 1099 form

The 1099 form will be available this coming Sunday, please stop by the library to pick up yours.

–President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA)

Since the PVSA was introduced into NCLS last school year by school Board, and attracted the significant attention from our parents and students. The 1st group of applicants have been granted golden and silvery medals in Fall 2015 semester due to their long term service for NCLS various activities. On January 30, the annual school Chinese Spring Gala will be hosted by school Event Committee and PCC, will need some volunteers to support this event. Please encourage your class (9th and 10th graders) to register. She or he can find the detailed information from above link.

-Recruiting Adult Aerobic Instructor (成人运动健身)

NCLS is looking for an Aerobic Instructor for adult class, if you have interest or know any candidate who is willing to teach at NCLS, please let us know as early as possible. The ideal starting date will be on January 31.

Here is the current Aerobic class syllabus for your reference: 30 minutes of aerobics, 30 minutes of muscle, and 30 minutes of stretching. Certification from a well established company preferred but not mandatory! Class is on Sundays from 2:00-3:30 following the school calendar.

-Help and Support Needed For A Little Boy（帮帮小世伟和他的家）

Around the same time of last year, there was a 8 years old boy, Shiwei Liu, visited our school. He is from China and suffered from massive burning injury when he was very young. Through the sponsor of A Life A time Foundation, he came to US for skin transplant several times. During his several times tough journey, many families offered generous heart warming support for this little life. This coming Sunday, he will be re-visiting our school and say good by to us before he is going to back China. If you want stop by and say Hi to Shiwei, that will be very appreciated. If you would like to show your love for this brave boy, any amount of dollar support will be appreciated. All the collected money will be used to support Shiwei’s family.
