{"id":14,"date":"2016-10-04T00:11:04","date_gmt":"2016-10-04T04:11:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.newtonchineseschool.org\/kangming\/events\/my-bookings\/"},"modified":"2026-09-04T16:42:25","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T20:42:25","slug":"contest-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blog.newtonchineseschool.org\/kangming\/contest-info\/","title":{"rendered":"MOEMS Contest Info"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Goals<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics<\/li>\n<li>To introduce important Mathematical concepts<\/li>\n<li>To teach major strategies for problem solving<\/li>\n<li>To develop Mathematical flexibility in solving problems<\/li>\n<li>To strengthen Mathematical intuition<\/li>\n<li>To foster Mathematical creativity and ingenuity<\/li>\n<li>To provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Divisions<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">Choose from two grade-appropriate divisions:<\/span><\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">Division E (grades 4-6)<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">Division M (grades 6-8)<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">If a team has any 7<sup>th<\/sup> or 8th graders, it must be in the DIVISION M.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">If a team has NO 7<sup>th<\/sup> or 8th graders, we strongly recommend that it be in the DIVISION E.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">NO team may have any student who has completed grade 8.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">Teams may not be split between two divisions.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><i>While students below grade 4 will be accepted, we do not recommend it. Without proper support, younger students can easily become afraid of math, rather than excited by it<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Date<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The highlights for students are the five monthly contests, given from November to March. These contests provide an incentive for students to intensify their study of math. The number of contests reinforces learning to think mathematically.
