{"id":257,"date":"2011-12-11T18:54:02","date_gmt":"2011-12-11T23:54:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.newtonchineseschool.org\/wangweidong\/?p=257"},"modified":"2011-12-11T18:54:02","modified_gmt":"2011-12-11T23:54:02","slug":"math-7a-lesson-11-12112011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.newtonchineseschool.org\/wangweidong\/2011\/12\/11\/math-7a-lesson-11-12112011\/","title":{"rendered":"Math 7A, Lesson 11, 12\/11\/2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today we talked about the generic formulae for solving a quadratic equation of ax^2 + bx + c = 0<\/p>\n<p>x= (-b +\/- sqrt(b^2-4ac))\/(2a)<\/p>\n<p>We did exercise of using the formulae to solve some quadratic equations.<\/p>\n<p>We further talked about the real life example of throwing an object, with the following mode:<\/p>\n<p>h = -16t^2 +vt + s<\/p>\n<p>where s is the initial height in feet, v is the initial speed (ft\/s), t is the time, and h is th height at t time. When throwing an object upward, v has a positive value; when throwing the object downward, v has a negative value.<\/p>\n<p>The terms inside the radical in the formulae is called discriminant.
