Day 7 (Last Day)

Dear all,
Congratulations! You made it. As I mentioned before, it’s not hard at all, right? I have met many of you today at Chinese school and I got all positive results back which made me feel very happy for you.
It’s my husband second day. He is feeling very well. Went bathroom 3 times. Very important thing is drink plenty of water while you taking the fiber.
I hope half year later, you’ll do the body detox again with me. We take shower every day, I hope we shower inside at least once every half year.
Today I want to share 2 Myths with you and hope it can help your future choices.
Myth 1: Bottled water is healthier than tap water.
Fact: Bottled water are mostly from tap water, some get purified or distilled again. Some not. Also almost all bottled water PH is acidic and has very little or non mineral which is not good for our health. Please see this news:
So what do we do? I suggest use dual-filter system which include Carbon filtration, ion exchange and sub-micron filtration. This is what I am using for many years, it gets rid of sediment, tiny microscopic particles, and chlorine taste and odor. In the mean time, the complex ion exchange process that enhances the mineral balance of water while reducing the lead and water taste so good.
Myth 2: Milk is good for our bones
Fact: Milk has high protein in it, it makes our body PH acidic and make our bodies lose calcium. Also it has high antibiotics and hormone in it.  So if you have to let your kids drink milk, please at least drink organic milk.

Self made soy milk is better in my opinion.
That’s it for tonight and I hope you got something in these 7 days.
Have a wonderful Holidays!

Day 4

Dear all,
Today is the day 4 of detox. We are half way through the 7 detox day already. Great job to all of you!
Today I will share with you is some Educational facts, you may already knew them.
Fact 1: Sugar is Poison
I read an article that sugar consumption per person in the UK in the 1600′s was about 7 lbs./yr. and that by the 1850′s in the USA it was about 52 lbs/yr and that in the USA 2003 it is some where around 150 lbs/yr and that in 2010 it’s about 180lbs/yr. In other words:
1600′s =   7 lb/52 wk = 0.135 lb/wk; = 17.46 tsp/wk; =  2.50 tsp/day
1850′s =  52 lb/52wk = 1.0 lb/wk.;  = 129.7 tsp/wk ; = 18.53 tsp/day
2003  = 150 lb/52wk = 3.0 lb/wk. ; = 389.1 tsp/wk ; =  55.59 tsp/day
2010  =  180lb/52wk = 3.46lb/wk. ; = 448.8 tsp/wk; =  64.11 tsp/day!

We as Chinese may not eat that much sugar like Americans, but we do eat lots of Starch food, like 白饭, 白馒头,面条,包子,面包,etc. They change to Glucose very fast. We call them high Glycemic Index (GI) food. The GI value of foods is simply a ranking of carbohydrates in foods according to their immediate impact on blood-glucose levels. Like pure sugar the GI = 100. This causes your insulin levels to rise rapidly in order to transport more glucose into the tissues. The insulin increase is your body’s way of getting the blood glucose levels to go down, because too much blood glucose can be harmful. Your body can normally handle occasional overloads of simple carbohydrates and store them as extra glucose rather than fat. But if we simply eating too many refined carbohydrates, the metabolisms learn to store carbohydrates as fat.

On the other side, when you eat a complex carbohydrate, such as vegetables, beans, lentils, oatmeal, or apples, your body breaks it down into glucose slowly, and insulin is also released slowly—a form of time released energy.

Here is a link for you to know the food GI value. Good for reference.

That’s for today and have a good night!

Day 3

Dear all,
It rained for whole day, felt a little bit depressed. But after Yoga class, energy comes back again.
Usually after 3 days of detox, you will feel it’s easier and easier to go through the rest of week. Tomorrow you may feel more energy and fresh.
Be smart to choose our food, these are the worst holiday food types:
1.The Deceptively Healthy Sounding Snack – Spinach and Artichoke Dip
Just because the words spinach and artichoke precede the word “dip” doesn’t mean it’s good for you.  It’s what’s left out of the title that makes it a caloric nightmare.  Once you add cream cheese, sour cream and mayo and pair it with chips, you end up with 300 calories and 19 grams of fat for one dollop (about ¼ cup).
2. Lifestyles of the Rich and Creamy- Crab Cakes
You know it’s bad when you can eat three dozen shrimp for fewer calories than one crab cake.  It’s not the crab that gets the bad reputation but what is added to it.  By mixing the crab with mayo, rolling it in bread crumbs and flash frying it in a boiling vat of grease – you end up with 400 calories and 19 grams of fat for one small crab cake.  Who knew something so small could have such a big impact on your figure!
3. The Fork-Size Version of a Brunch Favorite – Mini-Quiches
The smallness of mini-quiches can fool you into thinking that you can enjoy a bite-sized version of a brunch favorite without all the calories.  Unfortunately as we’ve seen with the other foods on the naughty list – size doesn’t always accurately represent the caloric content – each mini-quiche contains around 90 calories and 7 grams of fat.
4.  Don’t Go Nuts – Pecan Pie
You’re not the only one who rationalizes that pecan pie is healthy because it contains nuts (and even though nuts are high in fat – it’s the “good” kind of fat).  But try rationalizing your way out of the fact that pecan pie has the most calories, fat and sugar than any other pie.  Most of its 810 calories, 65 grams of fat and 55 grams of sugar come from the corn syrup and sugar filling, and not the nuts.
We always think once in a while, we eat some of these are OK. I kind of agree with it. Hopefully not once in a while this, once in a while that and then once in a while the others. Hehe…, that’s not once in a while any more.
BTW, if you have not cooked your garden vegetable soup yet, please do it now, it will last several days for you.
Tomorrow I am going to talk about the sugar and starch food.
Good Night!

Day 2

Dear all,
Good news, I’ve put all the information into Newton Chinese Teacher’s blog. Here is the link, Please let me know if you can NOT see it there:
How is everyone doing today? Today is the second day of detox. If you passed today easily, the rest of the week will be OK. I have tried to call most of the people and I know some of you are doing detox this week, the others will start next week. It’s ok as long as you save my email or have the access to my blog. Whenever you start doing detox, you can have these as reference.
Tips of Today: Don’t let yourself feel hungry. Bring food or veg shake mix with you to work. You can use sea weed (海带)to cook soup, so that you feel some kind of full.

Following information is good for you to know:

Why is the liver so important?

The liver is one of the most important organs in the body. It is the way the body eliminates many unnatural, detrimental substances that enter the body on a consistent basis. Maintaining optimal liver health is a must in modern times, where free radicals, toxins and harmful chemicals bombard the body daily. The liver’s function is to sort out and eliminate all of these harmful substances, removing them from the body. Internally, the liver must break down compounds, such as excess hormones and other byproducts of a healthy metabolism. Externally, the liver must filter and eliminate foods, food preservatives and added chemicals, pollutants, toxins and excessive alcohol. Lifestyle factors that we may or may not be able to control, such as genetics, diet, environment and stress can influence the functioning of the liver.

What is the significance of the digestive tract?

The digestive tract is of utmost importance, although many of us fail to notice this fact. The main function of the digestive system is, of course, to process and eliminate food and food by-products. It is an active organ that is also involved in immunity, acting as a barrier between you and the outside world with 60 percent of the lympathic system interwoven into the intestines. It is the home for healthy flora that helps to maintain proper balance. The digestive system actively transports nutrients into the body and helps to maintain the water/electrolyte balance. It serves to aid in the elimination of wastes through daily bowel movements, urination, perspiration and the breath. The consequence of second-rate digestive functioning may actually result in separate health concerns that may seemingly have nothing to do with the digestive system itself, yet flow from the system’s large involvement in a plethora of other processes. Various health issues can stem back to poor digestive health. One huge health concern related to digestive system health is constipation. Sixteen percent of all Americans experience occasional constipation. More women are affected in a ratio or 2 to 1. Elderly Americans experience over twice the rate and poor diet, poor hydration and lack of exercise all contribute to suboptimal bowel performance. With a prudent cleansing with NutriClean, one can be sure they are doing the most for their digestive system health – crucial in overall good health.

One New Recipe:

  • Tomatoes 8  cup cherry tomatoes

Day 1

Dear all,
Since all of the people in the email list can read English, I’ll write next several days in English. Thanks for saving my typing time.
Today is the first day of Detox for many people in the list. Please write back to me if you see something abnormal. First day or two is not so easy, since we restricted ourselves to vegetables and fruits. Several people ask me whether we can add protein, rice, noodle and other starch food. The answer is that if that’s the only reason stop you to do 7 day detox, you can add some in it during the 7 days. It will not harm you. But I’d like you try your best to stay on vegetables and fruits, but you can add some tofu and beans into your diet to get some protein. The #5 in my list is helping you easily to get more vegetables and fruit without bored with them.

In order to cleanse our colon and liver better, we want to eliminate following thing this week:
coffee, alcohol, refined sugar, artificial sweeteners and MSG.
First day or two, you may see light headache, fatigue. So please sleep earlier and with less exercises.
Here is today’s cooking tip:
1. You can eat as much vegetables as you can this week, raw, cooked, soup, etc… Always bring some prepared vegetable with you when you go to work, like carrots, tomato, broccoli, celery, ….
2. Limit to 3 serving of fruit a day. (e.g. A medium apple or a banana is one serving, half grapefruit is one serving)
3. If you still have Thanksgiving turkey bones at home, you can add carrots, celery, 白萝卜, then add 黄豆芽,tomato to cook soup. When you eat it, take out the meat, grease on the top, just drink the soup and eat vegetables.
Please call me with any concern that you have.
Have a nice day!

Thanksgiving Turkey and More

Thanks for Du, Ling’s information. Here is the wonderful way to cook your turkey this year. After I looked the pictures, I will definitely try to cook it this way this year. Enjoy!!!

http://nawomen.com/viewthread.php?tid=9325&extra=page%3D1

Also Du, Ling taught us how to do the stuffing, you want try it?

For the stuffing, I usually cook a pot of rice with equal amount of sticky rice and normal rice.  Chop organs from the turkey, make some 肉丝,香菇丝,葱, 姜, and whatever you’d like to put in, stir fry first. Mix with rice well, make it more saltier than you’d like it to be, since the salty taste will diffuse to turkey and get diluted during baking.  Then stuff the mix into the belly of the turkey.  De-greased neck is another place you could stuff.  Seal the stuffed belly and neck with clips or threads.  This stuffing has been very popular among my family and friends.
We also save the bones to make the soup, just add some 白菜和粉丝。
That’s it.  Enjoy the turkey dinner and the holiday!  Gobble, gobble!
