AoPS_Number_Theory 2020 Spring Week 1:  Linear Models

Welcome to the new course of AoPS: Intro to Number Theory! Here is the course information and teaching schedule: http://blog.newtonchineseschool.org/lilijia/number-theory/

Welcome new friend Alex!

Lesson Review:

  • We did a pretest and went through all the problems in class. Make sure you get the basic skills for this class (especially: finding divisors and remainders, exponents, solving quadratic equations)
  • Integers, natural numbers, whole numbers, counting numbers
  • Perfect square/cube/power
  • Remainder
  • n/0 is undefined
  • a proper divisor of an integer n is a positive divisor of n other than n.
  • We commonly write n|k. This means that n is a divisor of k. (n is the divisor, and k is the dividend)
  • If a|b and b|c, then a|c, i.e. divisibility is a transitive relation.

Homework:

  • Page 6: Ex 1.2.3
  • Page 10: Ex 1.3.5, 1.3.9
  • Page 14: Ex 1.4.1
  • Page 18: Ex 1.5.1 (j) (i)
  • Page 19: Ex 1.6.1, 1.6.2
  • Page 24: Ex 1.17, 1.18 (*1.19 bonus)

No school next Sunday. Happy Lunar New Year! See you on 2/2 (We will learn Chapter 2: primes and composites).

SAT-Math 2020 Spring Week 1:  Linear Models

Welcome new friend Abby!

This is the first class in the Spring Semester. By the end of June, we will go through all the topics including linear/quadratics, number theory foundation (synthetic division, complex numbers, absolute value), geometry (angles, triangles, circles, and volumes), trigonometry, probability, statistics, and reading data.

Lesson Review:

1. Comments & corrections on 2019 Fall Final Term

  • When the coefficients of each term are equal, we can say the left and right parts of an equation are equal. (Section 3, Q10, and Section 4, Q16)
  • The root square should be non-negative (Section 3, Q15)
  • Read every keyword carefully. Know which data you should look into. (Section 4, Q9)
  • Pythagorean Triples (3,4,5), (5,12,13), (7,24,25) and so on.
Use this scoring table to find how much you can get in this practice test:)

2. Chapter 14: Interpreting Linear Models

  • Understanding the meanings/applications of “slope” (rate of change) and ”y-intercept” (the value of the function when x=0).

Homework:

1. Corrections of Final Exam Paper

2. Chapter 14 Exercise (Page 113-116)

SAT-Math Week 15: Final Exam
